Job Description

Position Summary

As the Manager, Finished Goods Production and Inventory Control, you will lead all department production shifts to maintain continuous, safe, and cost-effective operations. You will be responsible for directing a team of hourly, salary non-exempt, and exempt employees by prioritizing daily production needs, and by developing and executing production plans using lean manufacturing methodologies. As the department leader, you must foster a safe work environment by demonstrating integrity, trust, and ethical conduct always. This position has daily responsibility for operations (all value-added activities) and supporting other departments. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.

Experience

  • Required Experience:
    • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business Management or related field, MBA preferred.
    • Years in a similar role: Minimum 5 years of plant leadership experience with progressively more responsibility.
    • Industry Experience: Requires knowledge of and experience with web handling and slitting equipment and processes. Experience in pressure-sensitive adhesives, labeling, or paper industries highly preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that all employees adhere to work rules and safety policies. Apply all safety regulations that meet OSHA and Mactac safety guidelines. Conducts incident investigations and ensures housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Establishes a strong presence on the floor to set and communicate expectations, standards, and evaluate results so all employees understand expectations.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures all production equipment scheduled to run and support areas are staffed with qualified employees. Maintain equipment staffing and vacation schedules. Ensures all employees adhere to work, attendance, and safety rules.
  • Reviews production schedules to ensure the schedules can be achieved and are based on the priorities of maximizing asset utilization, production effectiveness and providing good customer service.
  • Focuses on employee development by conducting training sessions (safety, SOPs, housekeeping). Coaches the machine problem troubleshooting process to develop employees to be self-sufficient in troubleshooting and involved in the decision-making processes.
  • Reports daily on employee, machinery, processes, safety and facility issues and concerns.
  • Responsible for plant objective projects to ensure overall effectiveness and successful implementation.
  • Monitors and analyzes machine waste and run efficiencies such as run-time, run speeds and quality trends. Include input from production support personnel, supervision, and all support functions to initiate corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for reporting all shift information for department.
  • Create a culture of that is focused on Lean methodologies such as 5S, Muda, Kaizen, Heijunka, Value Stream Mapping, Problem Solving, and Visual Management
  • Communicates company messages to all employees; collects and responds to questions and concerns.
  • Supports cross-functional and cross-plant operational learning expansion. Promotes standardization of best practices and manufacturing baselines.
  • Establishes and sustains managing processes that supports both the sustainment and improvement of the operation. Provides the leadership that ensures all functions (Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, QA, Safety, Warehouse, Accounting) are working in an aligned fashion towards common goals/objectives.
  • Develops a comprehensive budget for the department and manages the achievement of the annual plan.
  • Utilizes X-trim software and "help roll" inventory management components to optimize material cost across the finishing operation.
  • Responsible for department's time and attendance activities.
  • Occasional as required – about 5% of the time.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, and regular attendance is required.
  • Servant leader who can build teams and foster an environment of trust, respect, and accountability.
  • Must show proven skills in short-term/long-term planning to achieve company KPIs.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and good verbal/written communications skills are an absolute must.
  • Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools and methodologies, and ability to apply them to achieve department results.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and converting equipment and operations.
  • Strong time management skills; highly organized and capable of effective, efficient multi-tasking of competing priorities.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data.
  • Exhibit operational excellence mindset, visibly demonstrating leadership/change management behaviors.
  • Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests; able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.

  • The ability to work with computer software for word processing and Excel spreadsheets is required.
  • Familiarity with MRP or ERP systems is preferred.
  • Requires the ability to perform various math functions, with emphasis on measurable impact of mathematical calculations.
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
  • Fosters a participative, team-based environment focused on achieving business commitments.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, and regular attendance is required.

  • Physical Requirements:
    • The person in this position normally works in a manufacturing environment with a significant amount of time spent in the manufacturing facility. Hearing, eye, and foot protection is mandatory in the manufacturing area.
  • Work Authorization: Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
  • Relocation Eligibility: None
  • Travel: Minimal, up to 5% for meetings, training, and projects.
