**Public Health Physician in Augusta, ME**
**Overview**
Provide an overview of the work, briefly summarizing the job, the main purpose, the objectives, and the results expected.
This position will provide services and work towards objectives in three areas, as follows:
1. Workplace Health and Safety: The position will support the Chief Medical Officer/State Epidemiologist on work to establish a new Maine CDC Worker Safety and Health Program and will provide key technical expertise not currently available elsewhere in the agency. This work is critical to providing Maine CDC's Offices, and in particular the Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory, with support and guidance on the protection of employees in high-risk jobs.
2. PFAS Response: The position will support the State Toxicologist on work to establish a reporting system for PFAS test results and to design and execute a study of farm workers to determine their PFAS exposure from soil on contaminated farms, under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry.
3. Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning Surveillance: The position will review analysis findings and provide feedback on manuscripts related to a summary of findings of the Program's CO Poisoning Surveillance System.

Qualifications needed: Training and experience with environmental and occupational chemical exposures, including: knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices, especially in a laboratory setting; knowledge of environmental exposure pathways and medical effects of exposures; ability to understand scientific, epidemiologic, and medical literature; experience reviewing and creating public health guidance for chemical exposures; license to practice medicine in Maine.
The work will be performed remotely, and on occasion, at the Maine CDC, 286 Water St., Augusta.
**Duties and Deliverable** - Outline of specific job duties:

Duties include:
1) Worker Safety and Health: to identify work-related risks to agency employees; improve compliance with existing regulations; develop and implement best work practices; identify appropriate trainings; and identify other staff and resources needed to mitigate identified work-related risks.
2) PFAS Response: to work with the State Toxicologist to determine appropriate PFAS blood test reporting thresholds and requirements; to evaluate and provide feedback on the design of a reporting system for PFAS test results; to review and provide feedback on the design and execution of a study of farm workers to determine the contribution of contaminated soil to overall PFAS exposure; to evaluate available information (e.g., recordings of public meetings, reports, guidance documents, etc.) from the National Academy of Sciences, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and other entities regarding blood testing and medical monitoring for PFAS; and to provide recommendations to Maine CDC on best practices for PFAS exposure monitoring.
3) CO Poisoning Surveillance: to review results and provide feedback on statistical analyses and draft manuscripts relating to the summary and evaluation of Maine CDC's case-based CO poisoning surveillance system

The work schedule for this resource will generally follow the standard Department working schedule, including normal working hours between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday, though work can be performed by the resource outside of those hours as needed and agreed upon with Department supervisors. It is expected that the resource will be available and responsive to inquiries or requests from the Department during normal business hours, and will respond within one business day; there are no other expectations of on-call availability. Time off will be agreed on between the resource and Department supervisors, and paid holiday time will be pro-rated based on the proportion of maximum annual allowed hours to total full-time hours (1224/1896, or approximately 65%).
Compensation for roles at Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, SSO provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, SSO provides a range of benefits for this role.
