A Day in the Life:

As the Kitten Nursery Veterinary Technician you will assist the Veterinarians with exams, fluid therapy and the administration of prescribed medications. You will also take part in feeding the population, cleaning kennels, cat enrichment, training volunteers, and guiding fosters.

 

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/ GED required.
  • Completion of a Veterinary Technician program or minimum of 1 year of experience at a veterinary hospital. Education may substitute for experience.
  • Must know phlebotomy, parasitology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal handling.
  • Ability to shoot, develop, log and file radiographs adhering to all required radiation safety procedures.
  • Perform Felv, Felv/Fiv and Heartworm tests, implant microchips and administer any necessary vaccines.
  • Must follow departmental procedures for euthanasia including administration of drugs and loading deceased animals for disposal.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
