POSITION SUMMARY
The Materials Management Director will oversee the Materials Management functions and be responsible for the management and supervision of the evaluation, procurement, storage, and distribution of all supplies and equipment within Glenwood Regional Medical Center. This role is crucial in maintaining optimal inventory levels, managing supplier relationships, and coordinating logistics to support all areas of the hospital. The Materials Management Director will work closely with all departments to ensure that all supplies are available when needed, thereby eliminating any delays and maximizing efficiency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
- Collaborates with all departments and corporate to identify and maintain resources needed to provide an effective hospital supply chain.
- Establish performance metrics for measurement, comparison, and evaluation of factors affecting the supply chain.
- Develop and maintain detailed inventories of supplies and equipment located within the hospital, medical mall, and BHU.
- Maintain required quantity of supplies and materials to optimize hospital operations.
- Analyzes current inventories and procedures; suggest improvements to increase efficiency of supply chain and profitability for the hospital.
- Develop policies to increase efficiency throughout the supply chain while ensuring quality and safety; implements subsequent changes to processes as needed.
- Assess the need for material-handling equipment and staffing; makes recommendations to ensure efficient loading, unloading, movement, and storage of hospital supplies and equipment.
- Negotiate prices for materials and delivery with suppliers, vendors, and/or shipping companies.
- Monitor performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements; identify and qualify new suppliers in collaboration with other departments.
- Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
- Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination along with HR of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensure that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.
- Coordinates and directs the materials management portion of any internal/external audits and surveys.
- Develop and implement materials management strategies to optimize inventory levels and reduce costs.
- Oversee the procurement process, including supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management.
- Coordinate logistics for the timely delivery of materials/supplies/equipment to support the hospital operations.
- Manage warehouse operations to ensure efficient storage and handling of materials.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in material handling.
- Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Minimum 5 plus years of leadership experience and 3 years hospital acute care experience or 10 plus years of past purchasing experience and 1 plus years of hospital experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, shippers, and other hospital departments.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Excellent analytical abilities to grasp the key points from complex problems and ability to think outside the box to come to a resolution.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
