This role offers an opportunity for an experienced project surveyor or survey designer to join a rapidly growing engineering and surveying firm in Indianapolis. You will play a key role in delivering high‑impact site development and transportation projects by preparing detailed survey documents, supporting design efforts, and guiding field survey activities. The position combines technical design work in AutoCAD Civil 3D with coordination of survey operations and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare maps, sketches, plats, and legal descriptions that clearly document survey results and property boundaries.
+ Verify the accuracy of surveys by checking measurements, calculations, and field data before design or construction proceeds.
+ Establish property boundaries by interpreting deeds, titles, historical records, and other legal documents.
+ Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and designers to provide survey data and insights that inform design decisions and project specifications.
+ Use advanced surveying equipment, including GPS, total stations, scanners, and specialized software, to collect and analyze survey data.
+ Manage and coordinate survey teams by organizing field crews, assigning tasks, and overseeing data collection operations.
+ Ensure all survey work complies with applicable legal, environmental, and industry standards and regulatory requirements.
+ Record, organize, and present survey findings through reports, maps, and presentations for stakeholders such as project managers and permitting agencies.
+ Support construction layout by providing control points, elevations, and layout data to guide construction crews and verify field conditions.
+ Contribute to site and transportation engineering projects by integrating survey information into design workflows and documentation.
Essential Skills
+ 5-10 years of professional experience as a survey drafter or survey designer.
+ Demonstrated professional experience and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for survey and design work.
+ Professional experience with transportation design and right‑of‑way (ROW) surveying.
+ Hands‑on experience with site engineering, site surveys, and transportation engineering projects.
+ Ability to interpret and prepare right‑of‑way documents, plats, and related survey deliverables.
+ Strong understanding of survey principles, boundary analysis, and legal descriptions.
+ Proficiency in using advanced surveying instruments such as GPS, total stations, and scanners.
+ Ability to verify survey accuracy through careful review of measurements, calculations, and field data.
+ Strong communication skills for collaborating with engineers, architects, and project stakeholders.
+ Organizational and leadership skills to coordinate survey teams and manage multiple tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related discipline.
+ Interest in or active pursuit of professional licensure.
+ Ability and willingness to assist with field survey work when needed.
+ Experience preparing reports, maps, and presentations for permitting agencies and project managers.
+ Familiarity with transportation design standards and right‑of‑way procedures.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
