This posting will be used to fill up to five (5) vacancies.
These positions are intermittent and will work an irregular and uncertain schedule, including nights and weekends, based on the needs of the Department for contests.
The position of Combative Sports Inspector (CSI) works intermittently under the direct supervision of the Department of Labor and Industry-Office of Combative Sports (DLI-OCS). The inspector is charged with assisting with the regulation of Combative Sports contests. The CSI will assist in the enforcement of laws and rules that relate to the contests and assure the highest level of safety for combatants.
CSI duties include, but are not limited to: ring or cage inspection, attend pre-fight meeting, meet the fighters you are assigned to, allow only authorized personnel in dressing rooms, inspect fighter equipment, discuss order of bouts with fighters, observe hand wraps to make sure requirements are met, ensure supplies are at ring/cage side, escort fighter to the ring/cage at appropriate time, make sure only authorized personnel enter the ring/cage, observe conduct of seconds in the corner, observe the fighter to ensure no illegal drug or foreign substance is used or ingested, escort fighter back to the dressing room after the fight, observe fighter until the doctor clears the fighter.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to quickly assess, identify risks, de-escalate or call for assistance in adverse situations.
+ Communication skills to clearly relay rules and requirements to participants and management to ensure compliance.
+ Ability to remain alert and focused during, before and after an event; attentive to compliance and safety issues.
+ Customer service skills sufficient to respectively interact with combative sports officials, medical staff, combatants, coaches/trainers, promoters, security personnel and members of the public.
+ Ability to work within a team while independently enforcing rules and regulations with contestants.
+ Ability to relate and communicate effectively with individuals who do not share the same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
+ Must be able to travel, and work evenings and weekends.
+ It is the policy of Labor and Industry (DLI) that all employees submit to a driver's license check prior to employment when driving a vehicle is a requirement of the position. Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license is required for this position.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience in the Combative Sports Industry or experience enforcing compliance with laws, rules or regulations.
+ First Aid/CPR training or certification.
+ Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Portuguese, Russian or ASL).
**Physical Requirements**
This position requires the ability to ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs, maintain a stationary position for long periods of time and to move quickly in and out of a ring or cage.
**Additional Requirements**
