The GIS Specialist develops high-quality cartographic products and base map packages that support planning and engineering projects for greenfield sites. This role designs and maintains GIS-based maps, layouts, and web applications to enable clear communication, effective coordination, and informed decision-making across internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and revise cartographic products, including detailed maps, using GIS concepts, principles, and processes.
+ Create consistent, client-ready base map packages for greenfield sites that support planning and engineering activities.
+ Produce map layouts for planning and engineering workflows, such as site overview maps, constraints maps, utility maps, permitting exhibits, construction access maps, and stakeholder presentation decks.
+ Support the development and maintenance of web-based GIS maps, applications, and services used for internal coordination and client collaboration.
+ Configure and manage GIS content in platforms such as ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, or similar web-based GIS systems.
+ Collaborate with civil and engineering teams to ensure GIS outputs align with project requirements and design standards.
+ Integrate GIS data with AutoCAD and other design tools to support layout design and engineering deliverables.
+ Ensure cartographic products follow consistent styling, symbology, and layout standards for professional, client-ready deliverables.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field.
+ 3+ years of hands-on experience working with ArcGIS.
+ Strong proficiency in GIS concepts, principles, and processes for cartographic production.
+ Experience developing and revising maps and base map packages for planning and engineering projects.
+ Proficiency with ArcGIS software, including desktop and web-based tools.
+ Experience with AutoCAD and integrating GIS data into CAD workflows.
+ Ability to design clear and accurate map layouts for site overviews, constraints, utilities, permitting exhibits, construction access, and stakeholder presentations.
+ Experience working with civil and engineering data in a GIS environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working with ESRI-based platforms such as ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise Portal.
+ Familiarity with layout design principles for professional cartographic and presentation-quality outputs.
+ Understanding of base map creation and management for greenfield sites.
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with planning, civil, and engineering teams.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, consistent, and visually clear maps.
Work Environment
The GIS Specialist works in a professional, technology-driven environment focused on planning and engineering projects. The role relies heavily on ESRI's ArcGIS ecosystem, including desktop and web-based tools, as well as AutoCAD for integrating GIS data with engineering and layout design workflows. Work typically involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, supporting internal coordination, and enabling client collaboration through web-based GIS maps, applications, and services. The position is office-based or hybrid, using standard computer workstations and GIS software to produce client-ready cartographic products and base map packages.

This is a Contract position based out of De Pere, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.
