Mission of the Position:
The Technician in Training role works alongside EAB team members to learn basic balancing procedures, techniques, and technician responsibilities. This position reports to the assigned Project Leader and requires an individual who possesses a strong mechanical aptitude, is a team player and has the ability to prioritize. This position will require travelling to field project sites.
Primary Duties:
- Utilizes basic math skills to demonstrate understanding and proper application of fundamental formulas and calculations required for testing, adjusting, and balancing.
- Demonstrates the ability to read mechanical plans in order locate equipment on the project site.
- Demonstrates an understanding of set up, storage, operation, and calibration verification of all basic field instrumentation.
- Demonstrates the responsibility to keep all instrumentation and paperwork in a safe and secure location at all times; have all instrumentation ready for the task at hand and anticipates when assistance is required by a co-worker or supervisor.
- Demonstrates the ability to collect and accurately record field data for basic HVAC equipment.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist co-worker(s) and/or supervisor(s) with testing, adjusting and balancing of basic HVAC systems in accordance with standard procedures and to complete all necessary paperwork.
- Demonstrates basic written and verbal communication skills.
- Understands and follows directions from co-worker(s), Project Supervisor(s), Project Coordinator(s) and Project Manager(s).
- Follows these steps of the EAB Technician in Training Program:
- Actively participates in the EAB Technician Training Program by attending required classes and tutoring, if necessary, as recommended by the EAB Training Committee.
- Studies assignments and appropriately prepares for each Technical Training class.
- Passes the EAB Technician Test after completion of the Technician Training Program.
- Passes the AABC Technician Certification Test.
- Travel to different field project sites as needed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two (2) years of college education, or experience in related field with High School diploma preferred
- Must be willing to travel 50% of the time to field project sites.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- The ability to positively cope with frustrations encountered in completing tasks under adverse conditions.
- Hands on experience assembling or working on equipment on construction projects, manufacturing plants, engine repair or machine shops.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills
- Ability to prioritize work based on project urgency
- Willingness to work overtime
