Position: Director, Emergency Services Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Emergency Services will collaborate closely with nursing and physician leadership to coordinate, implement, and monitor clinical operations and patient care delivery across the Emergency Department and all associated Emergency Services, including the Clinical Decision Unit and Observation Unit. This role ensures appropriate resource allocation to meet patient care needs and holds accountability for achieving quality patient outcomes through continuous improvement of clinical and operational processes. Key priorities include capacity management and throughput, reducing boarder hours, and enhancing the patient experience. This position is based in a medium to large hospital with typically over 20,000 patient visits per year. Join UPMC Hamot's Emergency Services team and lead with purpose in an environment dedicated to exceptional patient care and innovation. + Education: + Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required at time of hire or transfer into the position. + Master's degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field (e.g., public health, information technology, administration) is required either at the time of hire/transfer or the candidate must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer and complete it within three years of enrollment. + Experience: + Minimum of five years of progressively responsible healthcare experience, including supervision and leadership roles, providing knowledge of clinical practice and human resource management. + Demonstrated analytical skills to evaluate staff performance, address clinical and programmatic issues, and develop solutions to complex problems. + Proven leadership ability to develop staff, establish and maintain performance standards aligned with national professional nursing practice guidelines, and comply with administrative requirements. + Skills: + Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively build relationships that support a healing environment among patients, families, staff, physicians, and hospital leadership. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances + Registered Nurse (RN) license current in the state where the facility is located, or a multistate license issued by a participating Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) state if applicable.
