The Controller must be a disciplined and detail-oriented leader who will lead and oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. The Controller will be a key leadership team member, responsible for managing the company's accounting operations, financial planning, and internal controls. This individual will support strategic decision-making by delivering timely, accurate financial information and ensuring fiscal discipline across projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trust across the organization by producing quality accounting work the first time while beating or meeting deadlines.
- Lead accounting staff with a customer service mindset, providing mentorship, training, and performance evaluations reinforcing the culture and results.
- Champion adoption of technology solutions and automation of accounting tasks and functions as approved by the Executive Team.
- Manage all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, treasury, job cost accounting, and payroll.
- Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP and Tax, as required.
- Prepare project-specific financial reports, cash flow forecasts, and analyses.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models in coordination with development and construction teams.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and make recommendations.
- Manage, enhance, and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Work closely with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and legal counsel to ensure compliance and support audits or financial due diligence.
- Other duties as assigned by the Company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- Minimum 10+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ years in a senior accounting or controller role, preferably in real estate, hospitality, private equity, retailing or similar multi-unit/-location businesses.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Tax basis accounting and reporting.
- Experience with consolidations, partnerships, and vertical integration.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g, Yardi, Real Page, or Sage) and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop accounting teams.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
This position is based at our Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. Nashville, TN, may also be considered as a secondary option.
