The Advanced Care Technology Research and development (R&D) engineer role supports the advanced care technology and visualization engineering department. An enterprise wide team providing services that supports Intermountain' s mission and vision by driving implementation of advanced care technology and visualization engineering technologies and services, and demonstrating clinical and business impact, from research to practice, that can transform healthcare at Intermountain. This position primarily supports the execution and service delivery of simulation, immersive, additive and 3D printing service line within the advanced care technology and visualization engineering visualization department.

**Job Description**
The Advanced Visualization Research and development (R&D) Engineer supports the advanced
visualization engineering department. An enterprise wide team providing services that supports
Intermountain' s mission and vision by driving implementation of advanced visualization technologies and
services, and demonstrating clinical and business impact, from research to practice, that can transform
healthcare at Intermountain. This position primarily supports the execution and service delivery of additive
and 3D printing service line within the advanced visualization program.
· This position fills a key role in Intermountain Healthcare's effort to transform how Healthcare utilizes
Advanced Visualization and Engineering technology to improve efficiencies and outcomes in a clinical
setting. The Specialist engineer is responsible for a wide variety of technical responsibilities as it relates to
the advanced visualization program 3D print services execution and continuous improvement of already
defined service lines and initiatives. And, supports the execution of newly formed service lines, including
implementation and validation of new design concepts to meet the needs of the relevant stakeholders.
This position requires one to have a deep understanding and application of varied 3D visualization (XR
and Spatial Computing) and 3D printing technologies and associated postprocessing techniques and
tools, with direct application in the use of 3D printing for prototyping and demo product visualization.
Furthermore, this position requires one to have great understanding of quality assurance techniques and
maintenance timelines and schedules to ensure accurate and repeatable 3D design, prototype, and model
production. This position further requires one to align tasks and work done to a given medical quality
management system with previous experienced in healthcare and medical device regulatory, privacy, and
risk management requirements.
· This role supports execution of established strategic priorities in evaluating and implementing new
advanced visualization technologies and solutions. This position executes the day-to-day engineering
needs for the advanced visualization program and works closely with and receives guidance from the
Advanced Visualization director and interacts closely with program engineers and other clinical and
business service line recipients. This position will grow as needed with responsibility as the program
matures.
**Essential Functions**
· Responsible for a wide variety of technical responsibilities as it relates to the advanced visualization program 3D print services execution and continuous improvement of already defined service lines and initiatives.
· Design, create, produce, engineer, Postprocess, and deliver services provided by the Advanced Visualization engineering team as needed.
· Execution of newly formed service lines, including implementation and validation of new design concepts to meet the needs of the relevant stakeholders.
· Apply knowledge of medical device design and 3D visualization (XR and Spatial Computing) and 3D printing technologies and associated postprocessing techniques and tools, in delivering the Advanced Visualization services
· Direct use of 3D printing for prototyping and demo product visualization.
· Implement quality assurance standards such as ISO 13485, including relevant techniques
· Maintain equipment according to timelines and schedules to ensure accurate and repeatable 3D design, prototype, and model production.
· Align tasks and work done to a given medical quality management system leveraging previous experienced in healthcare and medical device regulatory, privacy, and risk management requirements.
· Execute of established strategic priorities in evaluating and implementing new advanced visualization technologies and solutions.
· Execute the day-to-day engineering needs for the advanced visualization program
· Learn new skills as needed to achieve a given outcome.
· Recommends and implements solutions, including support.
· Prepares and ensures accuracy of documentation of services and operations.
**Skills / Qualifications**
· Bachelor's of Science degree in mechanical, biomechanical, or closely related engineering discipline AND an additional minimum two (2) years of relevant verifiable full-time hands-on experience with medical device 3D design, 3D printing with various 3D additive and manufacturing experience. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education and experience are verified.
- OR -
· 2-year technical additive or engineering degree, with an emphasis on 3D printing, polymers, or advanced visualization and manufacturing preferred, PLUS minimum five (5) years of full time verifiable full-time hands-on experience with medical device 3D design, visualization, 3D printing with various 3D additive and manufacturing experience operating and working in an Additive Manufacturing/Prototyping, with minimum polyjet, SLS, and SLA printers. Education and experience are verified.
- OR -
· Minimum six (6) years verifiable full-time hands-on experience with medical device 3D design, visualization, 3D printing with various 3D additive and manufacturing experience operating and working in an Additive Manufacturing/Prototyping, preferably with polyjet, SLS, and SLA printer technologies. Experience is verified.
**PLUS (in addition to education and experience above) Demonstrated tangible performance of ALL the following is required:**
· Demonstrated tangible performance of ALL the following:
· Design/work portfolio required
· Medical regulatory and Quality (i.e. ISO, 510k, etc..).
· Ability to independently set up SLA, SLS, MJF, and FDM builds for optimized throughput with little to no guidance.
· Skilled and experienced at optimizing the Additive Manufacturing/Rapid Prototyping process.
· Ability to repeatedly produce complex and tight tolerance components.
· Proficient in one or more of the proprietary 3D printing software programs.
· Skilled and experienced in maintenance and oversight of multiple 3D printing technologies, with minimum polyjet, SLS, and SLA printers.
**Preferred:**
· Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or biomechanical engineering in addition to 2 years relevant aforementioned verifiable.
· ISO13458 experience and certification
· 510k submission experience
· Quality Assurance and Risk Analysis
· Medical Device design experience
· Experience with a wide variety of additive manufacturing, e.g. Stratasys FDM Thermoplastics and PolyJet Photopolymers 3D printers and knowledge of subtractive manufacturing , e.g. AWJ,

· Experience with a molding and related manufacturing and prototyping techniques.
· Experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent project planning software
· Strong understanding of intellectual property (IP) considerations
· Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
· Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong written and oral communication skills.
· Highly self-motivated and directed with high level of attention to detail.
**Physical Requirements**
· Operate equipment, tools, and computers requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
· See and read computer monitors and documents.
· Transport oneself from place to place.
· This role will on occasion require outside of regular hours and weekend support

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
