Job Description

Position Title: Sheriff's Office Volunteer

Department or Program Overview: The Office Volunteer Position has been developed to support the mission of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and provide support for the Support, Corrections, and Enforcement Divisions.

Schedule and Location: 4-8 Hours per week at the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

General Statement of Duties:

  • Greeting the public, answering phones, data entry, filing, and other clerical duties as needed.
  • Attend ongoing meetings, in-service training and education workshops.
  • Other duties, may include:
    • Entering Rabies Certificate information into the database.
    • Sending out dog license applications to new dog owners.
    • Sending out monthly dog license renewal postcards.
    • Sending out concealed handgun license renewal reminders.
    • Scanning documentation and saving documents electronically.
    • Assisting with community event preparation.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D., must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age, a United States citizen.
  • Possess a valid Oregon Driver's License or State identification card.
  • Computer skills are desired, but not necessary.
  • Must complete oral interviews.
  • Must successfully pass a background examination.
  • Must have transportation.
  • Must present a professional appearance and friendly manner.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Must be courteous and personable when dealing with the public.
  • Must be self-directed and detail oriented.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment of one year of service with a minimum of 4-8 volunteer hours per month.

Position Reports To: Columbia County Sheriff's Office Manager.

Expectations: Be reliable, act responsibly and with integrity, be accountable for your actions, carry out duties according to the position description, be committed to Columbia County and your tour of service, undertake training as required, ask for support when needed, be courteous to the public, staff, other volunteers and value and support other team members.

Additional Training: Volunteer Orientation training will be provided.
