The Sawyer/Shear Operator's responsibility is to cut materials to specifications ensuring a quality product is produced. The successful candidate completes tasks as directed with minimal supervision.
This position is for first shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gather materials needed to perform job according to requirements.
- Read cut sheets to determine the amount, size, and grade of material that needs to be cut.
- Set up machines properly ensuring accuracy of cuts are made and a quality product is produced.
- Maintain inventory by providing an accurate count of products.
- Meet daily, weekly, and team related production goals while actively following all safety rules and procedures.
- Utilize a shear to prepare metal for customer's equipment per job order.
- Actively follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Determine if the correct material type and gauge is being used by reading blueprints and drawings ensuring accuracy.
- Operate a forklift to pick up material, as required.
- Operate hand tools such as a hammer, metal gauge, wrench, square, and tape measure.
- Maintains the machine cleaning.
- Communicate frequently with the Lead person on shop floor.
- Operate other fabrication machines such as the press break, saw, punch press, drill press, deburrer, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or G.E.D. strongly preferred.
- Minimum 2 years saw/shear experience in a steel fabrication environment preferred.
- Minimum of two years of related experience in a manufacturing, mill, or lumber environment including working with precision instruments and reading and following flat patterns a plus.
- Knowledge and expertise in the use of a variety of tools required.
- Knowledge of safety procedures while handling saws and other tools required.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instruction
- Ability to read and understand simple diagrams and blueprints desired
- Proven ability to identify different metal types.
- Must be able to work in or travel through the metal shop with exposure to noise, dust and metal shavings.
- Basic math skills required including being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide to work with computer programs and to convert from metric to standard measurements.
- Valid Washington state driver's license in good standing is required.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, tactful, and self-directed when faced with tight deadlines and fluid environments required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate in English required.
- Must possess a proven history of being reliable with excellent attendance.
- Conduct oneself with the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards.
