Job Description

The Hampden County Sheriff's Office is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic General Maintenance Officer – C.O. who will be responsible for the care, custody and supervision of the justice-involved population at the Hampden County Correctional Center in Ludlow. The General Maintenance Officer-C.O. maintains preventive maintenance; plans, schedules, coordinates and conducts maintenance and/or new construction; and directs an inmate apprenticeship training program, supervising and evaluating assigned inmates. Other duties include assisting or replacing other maintenance staff as directed; snow removal; maintaining security; painting; and flooring.


Applicants are subject to background investigation, drug screening, medical clearance, and physical fitness and psychological testing.


Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 2:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.; must be able to work any shift and overtime as directed.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Must meet Basic Training Academy graduation requirements
  • Must pass annual Correctional Officers physical fitness test
  • Bachelor of Art or Science, including study construction management, preferred; or a high school diploma and three years experience operating and maintaining large buildings
  • Knowledge of VCT epoxy flooring preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent physical health
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a known and accessible telephone number
