Reporting to the Manager of Electric Distribution Operations, the Work Methods Specialist plays a critical role in developing, managing, and monitoring training programs, both directly and through others, to ensure staff proficiency in technical skills and adherence to safety protocols. This position acts as the Electrical Utility Safety Codes Officer to investigate electrical hazards and incidents and oversees daily activities to ensure compliance. This full-time role requires 2,080 working hours annually and requires close collaboration with internal Utility Distribution System personnel, the public and other key stakeholder groups.
Your key responsibilities
- Design, deliver and continuously improve training programs for the electric utility trades.
- Ensure staff compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate staff competencies and tailor development plans to address skill gaps.
- Investigate electrical incidents and recommend corrective action.
- Compile clear and accurate documentation, such as reports, standardized procedures, protocol and bulletins.

- Expert technical knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the Power Line Technician trade.
- Thorough knowledge of industry and safety regulations, protocols, policies impacting the Electric Distribution Utility.

- Effective verbal and written communication, with the ability to adapt communication strategies to different audiences in daily tasks, emergency situations and training sessions.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in assisting to establish and achieve goals and objectives for the department.
- Proven ability to provide effective training and mentorship within the industry.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new technologies and software programs.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Journeyman Power Line Technician Red Seal Trade Certificate.
- Ten (10) years of experience as a Journeyman Power Line Technician in the construction, operation, and maintenance of an Electric Distribution System.
- Electrical Utility Safety Codes Officer with minimum 2 years' experience as an Electrical Utility Safety Codes Officer.
- Recognized, or the ability to obtain Fall Protection Instructor Certification
- A recognized, or the ability to obtain Confined Space Entry and Monitor Instructor Certification
- Possess and maintain a current Class 3 Alberta motor vehicle operator's license with an acceptable driving record.
- An equivalent combination of management approved education and experience may be considered.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
