What You'll Do as a Payroll Specialist

You'll play a critical role in supporting the backbone of our operations-our people. As Payroll Specialist, you'll ensure our 130+ hourly and salaried employees are paid accurately and on time, every time. You'll work closely with both HR and Accounting, building relationships across departments and becoming a trusted expert in payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and organize daily/weekly time sheets, ensuring all data is accurate, including regular and overtime hours.
  • Accurately enter timesheet data into the accounting system with precision.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll information and documentation.
  • Prepare and forward preliminary payroll reports to managers for review and approval.
  • Maintain accurate records of wage changes, insurance coverages, garnishments, and 401(k) plan deductions.
  • Process and remit federal, state, and local tax payments.
  • Generate periodic reports on earnings, taxes, and deductions.
  • Prepare and distribute paychecks.
  • Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries and coordinate timely solutions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment of benefit premiums (medical, dental, and voluntary benefits).
  • Support retirement contribution processing and participate in annual 401(k) audits.
  • Jump in where needed-other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of in-house full cycle payroll processing experience required.
  • Experience with a fully integrated ERP accounting system.
  • Solid understanding of, tax withholding, and wage garnishments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office tools a must.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and payroll compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail with a track record of minimal errors.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
