Under the supervision of the Treatment Court Director, the Counselor will provide counseling services including, but not limited to, one on one and group treatment, and utilization of evidence-based treatment modalities. The Counselor will be open to a team approach, as utilized within the Treatment Court program. The Treatment Court Counselor will be working with medium to high risk individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and/or addiction diagnoses. The Counselor will be responsible for the achievement of departmental objectives, as well as ensuring high quality and cost-effective service delivery systems. The Counselor performs special projects as directed by the Treatment Court Director and team.
In addition to the minimum educational requirements, successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Monitor the treatment needs of the defendants sentenced to Treatment Court, responding with the appropriate treatment modalities and recommendations to available community resources.
- Counsel defendants in private one on one setting, private group setting, as well as coordinating with Psychiatrists to ensure the defendant is compliant with medication.
- Prepare and coordinate all information relative to the defendant's case in order to provide factual information in a timely and accurate manner for the court when called upon during Treatment Court staff meetings.
- Maintain face-to-face contact with defendants
- Maintain an accurate and timely historical record of all information related to defendant cases under his/her care.
- Refer defendants to community social service agencies and advocates for necessary services from the agencies.
- Refer, in a timely and appropriate manner, all appropriate cases to community agencies and monitors progress through regular contact with said agency.
- Submit accurately documented weekly activity reports/monthly statistical reports to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Work closely with Treatment Court Team to appropriately report progress or lack thereof.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with allied agencies and other interested groups within the community.
- Assess on a continuous basis, methods to improve service delivery.
- Utilize Evidence Based Treatment modalities in working with defendants.
- Attend meetings, court, staffing and events ordered by the court and/or management.
This position is grant contracted, with funding through June 30, 2026. Grant has been in place since 2016.
