Position Summary

The Branch Executive Director of the Rapid City YMCA plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing the mission of the YMCA through impactful programs in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. In partnership with the YMCA of Rapid City Advisory Board and reporting directly to the COO, this position oversees a diverse portfolio of community programs including childcare,aquatics, wellness, youth sports, cafe

The Branch Executive Director will also be responsible for strategic leadership in programming, fiscal management, staff development, community engagement, and property oversight.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Board Development

  • Partner with the YMCA of Rapid City Advisory Board and maintain active board engagement aligned with Y goals.

  • Recruit, orient, and develop a diverse group of board volunteers.

  • Represent the branch on the YMCA of Rapid City Strategic Leadership Team.

  • Develops and manages an annual operating budget of approximately $5 million to support branch operations and strategic priorities.

  • Lead membership efforts serving approximately 5,000 members, ensuring engagement and retention that align with the Y's mission.

  • Oversee annual fundraising efforts with a goal of $250,000 to support program and community impact initiatives

Program & Membership Development

  • Develop and implement high-quality, mission-driven programs that meet community needs.

  • Meet or exceed annual membership and program participation goals.

  • Evaluate program quality and member satisfaction; ensure 90%+ positive ratings.

Staff & Volunteer Development

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and recognize a strong team of staff and volunteers.

  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and legal requirements.

  • Create a supportive and inclusive work culture that aligns with YMCA values.

Fiscal & Operational Management

  • Prepare and manage an annual operating budget in partnership with finance leadership.

  • Lead local fundraising efforts including the Annual Campaign.

  • Ensure financial accountability, accurate record-keeping, and resource alignment.

Facility & Risk Management

  • Maintain safe, clean, and welcoming facilities and grounds.

  • Ensure compliance with all YMCA risk management policies, licensing regulations, and safety standards.

Community Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with local organizations, schools, businesses, and government agencies.

  • Represent the YMCA in community initiatives and regional/national forums.

  • Promote access and inclusion for all community members.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, public administration, or related field (Master's preferred).

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in program management, operations, or nonprofit leadership.

  • Strong skills in fiscal management, fundraising, staff supervision, and community relations.

  • Proven ability to develop strategic plans and lead high-performing teams.

  • Understanding of YMCA programs and mission is a strong plus.
