About The Role:

The EKT Teacher, under the general supervision of the SUN Site Manager, will support the Early Kindergarten Transition Program by teaching a two-week summer program at the SUN Community School. This program aims to give children and families a head starts for a successful kindergarten year. It emphasizes academics, social-emotional learning (SEL), play, arts, music, exploration, and fostering friendships in a joyful and inclusive classroom environment.

SUN Community Schools are social service, neighborhood hubs that support and empower students, families, and communities by connecting them with resources through culturally specific advocacy, high-quality programming, and leadership opportunities.

Essential Duties:

• Plans, prepares, and teaches EKT program instruction based on Oregon's Early Learning Standards.
• Guides/supports EAs in their daily work.
• Creating a welcoming, engaging, and joyful kindergarten transition program
• Support in recruitment and family communication
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with students
• Collaborates with SUN staff and EKT parent educators
• Attend all onboarding and training sessions prior to the program.
• Attend the family orientation meeting in July.
• Other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• State of Oregon TSPC license with proper endorsement, highly qualified status.
• Current first-aid card.
• Bilingual in one or more of the following: Spanish
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to effectively follow both written and oral directions.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, families, and students.
• Experience with/or confident with public speaking
• Must be able to organize work, take initiative, follow through, and pay attention to detail

Other Requirements:

• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
• Satisfactory results from civil, criminal, and motor vehicle background check required.

Compensation: $30/hour.

Location: Highland Elementary School 295 NE 24th ST, Gresham, OR 97030

• Typical Working Conditions: Must be available to work from school hours, EKT Program hours: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm Mondays-Thursdays from Aug 4th - Aug. 14th (5 hrs/4-day wk) 12 hours of paid preparation and training before the start of the program and during programing.

• Meet with families, collaborate in afterschool events, attend in-person trainings, community partner meetings, and funder
