We are seeking a Patient Care & Foster Care Manager who is passionate about developing people, solving complex challenges, and ensuring every animal receives the highest standard of care.

This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, values thoughtful decision-making, and is committed to supporting and growing high-performing teams.

Why This Role Matters

As the Patient Care & Foster Care Manager, you will lead the teams responsible for some of our most vulnerable animals-those requiring medical attention and those awaiting placement in foster homes. Your ability to coach staff, think critically, and make informed, humane decisions directly impacts animal outcomes and team success.

What You'll Do

Lead & Develop People

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor patient care and foster care staff, creating a supportive and accountable team environment
  • Provide ongoing feedback, performance evaluations, and meaningful development opportunities
  • Coordinate training, including hands-on skill building and continuing education
  • Foster a culture where staff feel empowered to ask questions, think critically, and grow professionally

Drive Thoughtful, High-Quality Care

  • Oversee daily operations of medical and foster programs, ensuring efficient, compliant, and compassionate care
  • Partner with veterinarians to develop and implement treatment plans for ill and injured animals
  • Monitor population levels and evaluate capacity for care, making informed recommendations on placement and outcomes
  • Ensure all medical protocols, documentation, and kennel standards meet regulatory requirements

Use Critical Thinking to Solve Complex Challenges

  • Assess evolving medical and population needs and adapt plans in real time
  • Navigate nuanced decisions related to animal care, foster placement, and resource allocation
  • Collaborate across departments to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and implement solutions
  • Respond to escalated concerns from staff, volunteers, and the public with professionalism and sound judgment

Support Foster Program Success

  • Oversee foster operations, ensuring timely placement and positive experiences for foster families
  • Collaborate with internal teams to recruit and retain fosters
  • Monitor length of stay and proactively identify barriers to placement

Ensure Operational Excellence

  • Manage medical inventory, supplies, and vendor relationships
  • Oversee scheduling to maintain coverage 7 days a week
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting and resource optimization
  • Maintain compliance with all safety standards and controlled substance protocols

What You Bring

  • A passion for developing people and building strong, resilient teams
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, especially in fast-paced or ambiguous situations
  • At least 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine, animal sheltering, or a related field
  • Prior supervisory experience with a focus on coaching and accountability
  • Ability to balance compassion with sound judgment in emotionally complex situations
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or Associate's in Veterinary Technology
  • Veterinary Technician license (preferred)
  • Experience treating or managing care for sick or critically ill animals

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Active, hands-on role requiring time on your feet and working directly with animals
  • Exposure to animal allergens and a variety of shelter conditions
  • Schedule will be 5 eight-hour shifts and will include at least one regular weekend shift
  • Position is fully on-site
