SUMMARY:
The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for the oversight and development of all fundraising and marketing strategies to grow the base of philanthropic support and increase public awareness of the YWCA Union County. In direct coordination with the Executive Director, this position directs the day to day fund development and marketing operations and directly supports the work of the Board of Director's Fund Development Committee. This position reports directly to the Executive Director as their efforts relate to the YWCA Union County fund development and/or marketing events and activities.
The person in this position must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; function effectively in a fast-paced work environment; have good supervision and delegation skills; be capable of carrying out a project from start to finish with minimal direction; and be able to represent the YWCA Union County in a professional manner under a variety of circumstances.
The person in this position must be able to work both autonomously and as an integral component of the senior management team. Must be able to meet deadlines and always demonstrate a strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SPECIALIZEDTRAINING
1) Sound knowledge of principles of fundraising and fundraising related activities, and 3 years experience in non-profit management.
2) Exceptional public speaking, verbal and written skills in English. Fluency in a second language is desirable.
3) Working mastery of computer programs including: Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel, and familiarity with fundraising software.
4) Must be able to research donor sources using Internet and other electronic forms of research.
5) Must be able to speak and write English fluently.
6) Bachelors degree and 3 years experience in fund development, including grant research and writing; grant management for corporation and foundation funding sources and skills in donor cultivation.
7) Equivalent of 3 years experience in marketing and public relations preferred.

9) Functional mastery of material and equipment directly used; e.g.: Telephone, answering
machine, photocopier, fax, computer, Internet, email, voice mail system.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
1. Able to remain seated without a break for periods of up to two hours. Must be able to carry up to ten pounds. Able to see, hear and speak adequately to perform the functions of this position.
2. Must have a valid driver's license.
Essential Job Duties:
Planning, Evaluation and Reporting
1. Responsible for analyzing current funding sources and trends and conducting research into potential Federal, State, County, Corporate and Foundation and individual funding sources.
2. Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic and development plan for the YWCA Union County in collaboration with the Executive Director and Fund Development Committee. These plans will include specific goals, objectives, methods, quantifiable outcomes and timelines. Included in areas developed in these plans are strategies to: a) strengthen, sustain and expand existing programs, b) establish new initiatives and b) achieve sustainable growth and/or replacement of existing sources of funding.
3. Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring a realistic annual fund development plan budget with realistic revenue and expense projections.
4. Responsible for meeting monthly with the Fund Development Plan to oversee the implementation of the Fund Development Plan and make adjustments as needed.
5. Responsible for working closely with YWCA Union County staff to review program components to obtain information for reporting, comply with donor expectations and stay aware of programmatic needs for funding to fill gaps or unmet needs of clients.
Fundraising
6. Responsible for writing and submitting new and renewal government, corporate and foundation grant proposals.
7. Responsible for grant management, reporting and updates for all grants received in partnership with the Finance Director and program directors.
8. Responsible for overseeing and implementing activities related to (non-grant related) annual fundraising including direct mail, online and special events.
9. Responsible for cultivating and developing donors in a way that encourages them to upgrade their annual support levels.
10. Responsible for identifying and, in collaboration with the executive director and/or board members, cultivating major gifts and planned gift prospects and soliciting these at the appropriate time.
11. Responsible for good stewardship of all public, private and individual donors to insure donated funds are used as designated by the donor, insuring that all financial and in-kind gifts are acknowledged and recorded, with the assistance of the Development Associate.
12. Responsible for maintenance and submission of required statistics to NJCEDV, DCF and other entities as required.
Marketing
13. Responsible with ED for planning and implementing a public marketing and public relations campaign including community presentations, press releases, public service announcements, development of such publications as brochures, annual reports, email newsletters and social media media; e.g.: web site, television and radio.
14. Responsible with the ED to grow positive public awareness of the YWCA Union County and strengthen its reputation with clients, funders and the communities it serves.
15. Responsible with the ED for cultivating civic organizations, the Board of Directors, corporate, foundation and business representatives via presentations, agency tours and cultivation of in-kind volunteerism.
Secondary Job Duties
1. Attend staff and director's meetings and other meetings as may be appropriate.
2. Other projects as assigned by Executive Director.
