Job Description
**Introduction**
IBM Quantum's mission is to bring useful quantum computing to the world. It operates as part of IBM Research, which has brought useful computing to the world through numerous inventions. It is a corporate research environment with an academic culture of merit. Whether its advances in AI, cloud computing or new forms of computing, IBM Research is at the forefront.
**Your role and responsibilities**
We seek an advanced engineer or physicist who will propose, design, measure and analyze experiments to enable long distance superconducting quantum communication. The ideal candidate will have advanced training and experience in mechanical systems that have electrical properties - like connectors. In particular, understanding of mechanical issues and microwave transport at the single photon level is desired and how they operate in cryogenic superconducting environments.
**Required technical and professional expertise**
Experience with cryogenic systems and superconductors
Experience designing high performance electrical-mechanical systems
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
Experience with quantum systems and quantum computing implementations such as ions, cold atoms, photons, spins, or superconducting circuits.
Experience with microwave transport
Solid-state physics experience and superconductors
Experience with mechanical CAD and design
Experience operating machine tools
