We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support revenue cycle operations for a healthcare organization in Columbus, Ohio. This part-time contract position is ideal for someone who is comfortable managing a high volume of billing activity, resolving claim issues efficiently, and maintaining accurate financial records. The role combines hands-on claims follow-up with consistent communication across teams to help improve reimbursement outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day medical billing activities and oversee a steady monthly workload of approximately 800 claims.
- Investigate unpaid, delayed, or rejected claims and take appropriate action to secure timely resolution.
- Review denial trends, correct billing issues, and resubmit claims to support accurate reimbursement.
- Enter and update billing information in internal systems and spreadsheets with a high level of accuracy.
- Use basic Microsoft Excel functions to track claim status, organize payment data, and maintain reporting records.
- Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders, payers, and other contacts to address billing questions and outstanding issues.
- Support medical collections efforts by following up on balances and documenting account activity thoroughly.
- Work in a hybrid schedule, including on-site attendance in Columbus, Ohio 1-2 days per week.
Requirements - Demonstrated experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management within a healthcare setting.
- Working knowledge of claim submission, payment posting, denials management, and account follow-up processes.
- Ability to handle a high-volume workload while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly for data entry, tracking, and simple reporting tasks.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to follow up consistently and resolve issues professionally.
- Familiarity with medical coding, claims processing, and collections practices.
- Experience with TherapyNotes is helpful but not required.
