Job Description
The Data Entry Specialist – Senior provides senior-level keypunching and data entry support for BEA's survey processing operations. This position processes paper-form submissions of annual, quarterly, and benchmark Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) business surveys, including BE-series forms covering direct investment, services, and related economic data. The senior specialist is responsible for high-volume, high-accuracy data entry, document scanning, and form management for survey cycles critical to BEA's production of national economic statistics. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, familiarity with economic survey data, and ability to manage multiple survey deadlines simultaneously.
- Keypunch, scan, and manage BEA survey forms across annual, quarterly, and benchmark survey cycles
- Process Annual surveys: BE-11 (including all supplements), BE-13, BE-15 (including supplements), and BE-29
- Process Quarterly surveys: BE-577, BE-605, BE-45, BE-125, BE-185, BE-9, BE-30, and BE-37
- Process Benchmark surveys (occurring every 5 years): BE-10, BE-12, BE-120, BE-180, and BE-140
- Verify accuracy of entered data against source documents; identify and correct discrepancies
- Scan and digitize paper survey forms; organize and file physical and digital survey records
- Maintain quality control over data entry work products; meet production accuracy and throughput targets
- Mentor Mid-level Data Entry Specialist and assist in workload distribution during peak survey cycles
- Coordinate with BEA survey operations staff on processing questions, corrections, and special handling
- Maintain records of survey receipt, processing status, and completion for reporting purposes
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- 5+ years of high-volume data entry or keypunching experience in a professional or government environment
- Demonstrated keyboarding speed and accuracy (minimum 10,000 KPH or equivalent)
- Experience processing or managing large volumes of paper-form survey data
- Strong attention to detail; demonstrated record of high-accuracy data entry
- Proficiency with data entry systems, databases, and standard Microsoft Office applications (Excel required)
- Experience with BEA or federal statistical agency survey processing (BE-series or equivalent)
- Familiarity with economic or financial survey data concepts (foreign direct investment, trade in services)
- Experience with document scanning and management systems
- Experience training or mentoring junior data entry staff
- Knowledge of data quality control processes and error identification procedures
- Experience processing benchmark survey cycles with multi-year production requirements
