Electrical Test Technician, Instrument Transformer Equipment Corporation

The Electrical Test Technician will prepare instrument transformers for testing; wire connections, cable connections, and execute the necessary tests and calculations as listed to confirm tests are complete. They will work closely with Quality, Production, and the Engineering department to maintain a clean and safe work environment and take initiative in identifying safety improvement opportunities.


LOCATION: Fully Onsite - 2402 Walkup Ave. Monroe, NC 28110


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare instrument transformer for testing; wire connections, cable connections, and prepare testing for "Safe" testing environment.
  • Uses available blueprints, diagrams, and engineering specifications to set up and perform various tests on equipment and manufactured parts.
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment to include voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters, ohmmeters, bridges, oscilloscopes, and wave analyzers to test a variety of equipment and manufactured parts.
  • Execute the necessary tests and calculations as listed to confirm tests are complete; turn test, ratio and polarity, IEX and core loss, DC resistance, impedance and load loss, induced potential, applied potential, power factor (INS), insulation resistance, heat run connect, corona, impulse, noise test, voltage regulator, current regulator, electrical inspection, final mechanical inspection, pressure test procedure, control box checkout, top cover checkout, final inspection and sign off, fabrication parts inspection, and current transformer test.
  • Change test circuits as required to configure instrument transformers and test equipment for appropriate test.
  • Calibrate meters; current regulator, voltage regulator, etc....
  • Reject non-conforming materials and assemblies.
  • Maintain test schedules per customer demands.
  • Calculates and analyzes the results of the tests performed.
  • Submit certified test report drafts to engineering.
  • Check the accuracy of own work and work of others.
  • Perform repairs on test equipment as needed. Fabricate, install, and test out equipment related to the testing operations.
  • Apply general knowledge of electrical circuits and equipment to determine safe operating levels of test equipment.
  • Perform post-testing duties: removal of some equipment, cable removal, equipment removal, etc.
  • Must maintain a clean and safe work environment and willing to take initiative in identifying safety improvement opportunities.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement and Kaizen activities.
  • Guide and assist in training other personnel as needed and where applicable.
  • Operate cranes, power lifts and other moving equipment.
  • Support and assist the Quality/Production/Engineering areas as needed.
  • Clocking in and out of jobs using Factory Track.
  • Safety is First priority.


QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:


  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in electrical testing in heavy industries or utilities or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Broad experience as gained through electrician or service technician work for electrical equipment.
  • Developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using inspection tools, test instruments and other required equipment.
  • Computer skills for entering and retrieving data. (MS Office suite).
  • Able to work from ground level to working in, on top of, and around the sides of the unit which may be 6 feet or more in height.
  • Overtime, including Saturday work, may be required.
