Position Summary

Cascadia Metals is seeking a versatile Machine Operator to operate both Cut-to-Length (CTL) and Slitting lines at our Hamilton branch. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment to process steel coils into finished products that meet customer specifications. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Production

  • Set up, operate, and monitor CTL and slitting lines, including decoilers, levelers, slitters, and shearing equipment
  • Read and interpret production orders and customer specifications
  • Load coils onto machinery using a forklift (or willingness to be trained)
  • Adjust machine settings to achieve precise dimensions, tolerances, and flatness
  • Perform efficient changeovers between different materials, thicknesses, and sizes
  • Follow production plans and schedules to meet output targets

Material Handling & Support

  • Unwrap coils and prepare materials for processing
  • Assist with strip coil handling and support machine operations as needed
  • Wrap, strap, and label finished products
  • Build pallets and prepare orders for shipment
  • Tag and mark materials accurately

Quality Control

  • Inspect materials during processing for defects, dimensions, and quality standards
  • Perform first-piece inspections and document results
  • Ensure finished products meet company and customer specifications

 

Safety & Maintenance

  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE and lockout/tagout requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment (5S practices)
  • Perform routine equipment checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance
  • Report any equipment issues or hazards promptly

 

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete production reports, including coil usage, scrap tracking, and output
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality staff

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and production plans
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Safety-conscious mindset
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

 

Requirements

  • Reliable and punctual
  • 3-6 Years of experience required
  • Steel-toe boots required
  • Forklift experience or valid license (preferred)
  • Ability to read production orders and complete basic paperwork
