Job Description

Medic 1 Ambulance is a municipally owned EMS agency that serves Berrien County, MI. Medic 1 is a well-balanced system with stations that cover over 42 miles of Lake Michigan coastline, 50+ miles of interstate, both rural areas and busy urban areas.

Medic 1 is currently looking for an EMT interested in doing Inter-Facility Transfers on a BLS Transfer car. This position works 12-hour shifts, and allows you to be home every night! It is a great spot for anyone looking to get experience and transition into a 911 position, or someone interested in a 12-hour schedule where they can sleep in their own bed every night.


Medic 1 believes in using its EMTs to the fullest. Our EMTs can find themselves on static ALS units are on their own in a 911 BLS Ambulance. At Medic 1 we employ a tiered system made up of BLS, LALS, and ALS ambulances, along with ALS non-transport units that are used to intercept with BLS crews when needed. Our BLS scope of practice is very progressive and includes but is not limited to: CPAP, Albuterol, Glucagon, Epinephrine, Zofran and more.

Medic 1 Ambulance also has its own education department that provides free continuing education to our employees. If you're interested in furthering your education, we can also provide Advanced EMT and Paramedic education in-house.

Applicants must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

1. Critical thinking in stressful situations.

2. Knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology.

3. Currently licensed State of Michigan EMT.

4. Current BLS Card.

7. Complete knowledge of protocols and skillful application of those protocols.

8. Able to maintain harmonious relationships with fellow crew members, public safety personnel, and the general public under stressful situations.

9. Able to show empathy towards patients and others.

10. Physical Fitness: EMTs must maintain physical fitness in order to perform the job.


Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, must be able to stand, walk, sit, operate motor vehicles, balance, work at heights, climb stairs, twist/turn, bend/stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, and crawl. EMTs are often called upon to work in harsh or austere environments including extremes of temperature, noisy, adverse, or poor weather conditions for extended periods of time. Lifting includes occasionally lifting 100lbs or more with or without assistance.
