Job Description

Summary: The Trailer Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the mechanical and electrical components of trailers. Key responsibilities include servicing trailer parts, compiling inspection reports, and ensuring compliance with road safety requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and safely repair trailer bodies, systems, and components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on trailers.
  • Maintain hubs and axles, adjusting or replacing them as necessary.
  • Inspect, service, and replace trailer parts, including tires.
  • Check and repair brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Test all systems and equipment for performance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation road safety standards.
  • Compile detailed inspection reports, document repairs, and communicate findings to management.
  • Monitor inventory levels, place orders, and verify receipts to ensure adequate stock of parts.
  • Follow Karmak guidelines by accurately logging tasks performed.
  • Collaborate effectively with Service Advisor, Shop Foreman, and Parts Advisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Skills Required:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency and the ability to interpret manuals and instructions.
  • Aptitude in mathematics for accurate measurements and calculations.
  • Organizational and project management skills.
  • Time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior related work experience is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six months of prior trailer repair experience.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to loud noise levels.
  • Work may occur indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Engage in activities such as standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
