POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Coordinator plays an important role in creating a welcoming, active, and engaging Community Center environment. This position helps bring programs and events to life - from youth sports and senior activities to special events and community gatherings.
This is a hands-on, people-focused role perfect for someone who enjoys working with the public, solving problems on the fly, and helping create positive experiences for residents of all ages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will be responsible for these major duties:
Program & Event Coordination
- Assist with planning, organizing, and running recreation programs including:
- Youth sports leagues, clinics, and open gym programs.
- Senior programs, social events, and wellness activities.
- Fitness classes and specialty workshops.
- Community special events and seasonal programs.
- Provide on-site supervision during programs, including evenings and weekends.
- Serve as a point of contact for instructors, volunteers, and participants.
- Help monitor program quality and participant satisfaction.
Community Center Operations
- Provide front desk coverage including:
- Participant check-in and registration assistance.
- Answering phones and responding to general questions.
- Assisting residents with memberships, passes, and program information.
- Perform routine facility walkthroughs to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness.
- Open and/or close the facility following established procedures.
- Help ensure facility rules and policies are followed in a positive and professional manner.
Customer Experience
- Assist with room and facility rentals as needed:
- Room setup and breakdown.
- Basic A/V setup assistance.
- Coordination with Recreation Coordinator.
- Help create a positive experience for all guests, renters, and participants.
- Addressing customer concerns calmly, professionally, and with a solutions-focused approach.
Program Support & Administration
- Assist with program registration management and roster tracking.
- Help prepare schedules, attendance sheets, and program materials.
- Assist with marketing efforts including flyers, social media content ideas, and program promotion.
- Help track supplies and notify supervisors when restocking is needed.
Safety & Team Support
- Assist with emergency response following department procedures.
- Maintain safe program environments for participants of all ages.
- Work collaboratively with full-time staff, part-time staff, and instructors.
- Assist other departments during large events when needed.
- Other duties are assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Associates or bachelor's degree in Recreations, Parks & Recreations, Education or another related field preferred.
Experience:
- 1-3 years in recreation programming, customer services, or community center operations.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- FBI Criminal History Clerance
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- PA State Police Criminal History Clearance
- First Aid, CPR and AED Certification - within 6 months of hire.

Work is performed in a busy community center which at times can be noisy.
