A General Laborer is an entry-level position that performs general lumber mill responsibilities including stacking lumber and moving inventory. They are responsible for manual labor tasks and support production operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute daily work instructions including, but not limited to, stacking lumber off green chains and/or resaws.
- Learn and understand quality and stacking standards.
- Ability to or willingness to learn to operate material handling equipment.
- Assists in performing basic maintenance to equipment.
- Gain an understanding of mill operations and production processes.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to safety standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Attend all safety meetings and any necessary production meetings.
- Keep production area clean and free of hazards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Communicate effectively with any levels/departments within the organization
Physical Demands/Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry materials up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Requires the use of hands, tools, and equipment in an active production or construction environment.
- Must be able to climb, reach overhead, and operate machinery as needed.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and hard hat as appropriate.
Work Conditions and Environment:
- Work performed primarily in production setting and may include outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold), wet or humid conditions, and variable weather.
- Work areas may include production facilities, yards, or construction sites with varying noise levels and potential exposure to dust, fumes, or other airborne particles.
- Must be able to safely perform duties in all weather conditions.
- May be required to work extended hours, weekends, or shift work to meet production schedules.
