Job Description

Safety Basis Analyst 3 – Nuclear Facilities (DOE/LANL)

Location: Los Alamos, NM | Hybrid (TA-55 support with required onsite presence)

Compensation: $105–$115/hr

Schedule: Flexible | Must be open to weekend support (Sat/Sun)

Duration: 1-Year Contract (Strong potential for extension)

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required

Clearance: Ability to obtain DOE Q Clearance | Active clearance preferred

 

WHY THIS ROLE

Safety Basis Analysts at this level play a critical role in ensuring safe operations within high-hazard nuclear facilities at LANL. You will directly support Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) efforts at TA-55 - helping maintain compliance, mitigate risk, and enable mission-critical work during a period of increased operational tempo. This is a high-visibility position working alongside top-tier professionals solving complex safety challenges in a national security environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and perform hazard and risk analyses for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities
  • Develop and maintain safety basis documentation including DSAs, TSRs, and safety assessments
  • Perform USQ determinations and support ongoing facility compliance efforts
  • Conduct hazard identification, accident analysis, and control selection
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and safety teams to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Support increased operational tempo and evolving mission requirements at TA-55
  • Pass Safety Basis Qualification Review Board

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
  • 12+ years of relevant safety basis or nuclear analysis experience
  • Direct experience with USQ processes and safety basis documentation
  • Strong experience with nuclear facility hazard analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE/NNSA regulatory environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active DOE Q Clearance
  • Prior experience at LANL or TA-55 specifically
  • Background supporting Hazard Category nuclear facilities
  • Ability to quickly qualify and operate independently in a high-demand environment
  • Per diem / relocation support available

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS - READ BEFORE APPLYING

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science + 12+ years of experience - no exceptions
  • Must have direct Safety Basis / USQ experience in nuclear or DOE environments - candidates without this will not be considered
  • Must be available for onsite presence in Los Alamos, NM and flexible for weekend support
