Operations Support Specialist 4 – Radiation Protection/Construction (DOE/LANL)
Location: Los Alamos, NM | TA-55 PF-4 | Hybrid (onsite + remote flexibility)
Compensation: $65–$70/hr + Per Diem available

WHY THIS ROLE
LANL is seeking a high-level Operations Support Specialist 4 to support critical construction and radiological operations within a DOE Hazard Category 2 nuclear facility at TA-55 PF-4 - the nation's premier plutonium facility. This is a long-term, high-visibility role ideal for professionals with deep Radiation Protection experience combined with hands-on construction execution in CAT II nuclear environments. You will work directly with project leadership, engineering, work control, and field teams to drive execution, resolve technical issues, and ensure radiological controls are properly implemented across all phases of work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide expert-level guidance on Radiation Protection and radiological safety during construction and operations
- Support design, construction, startup, and maintenance activities for complex nuclear systems
- Interface with project teams, work control, and construction leadership to ensure safe execution
- Conduct independent technical reviews and assessments of radiological work and controls
- Drive compliance with DOE standards, conduct of operations, and safety requirements
- Lead coordination across multidisciplinary teams and ensure alignment with project deliverables
- Provide technical recommendations and problem-solving for high-risk activities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related field - OR equivalent experience
- 8+ years of relevant experience including 5+ years in Radiation Protection
- Experience supporting DOE CAT II nuclear facility operations or construction
- Demonstrated experience in radiological work planning and execution
- Experience supporting construction in nuclear or high-hazard environments
- Ability to interface with multiple stakeholders in regulated environments
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q Clearance
HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in plutonium facilities - TA-55 / PF-4 specifically
- S. Navy Nuclear background
- Strong Conduct of Operations knowledge
- Experience with work control, hazard analysis, and radiological planning
- Proven leadership in complex, high-risk project environments

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS - READ BEFORE APPLYING
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
- Must have documented Radiation Protection experience - no RP background is disqualifying
- Must have experience supporting construction in DOE CAT II or NRC nuclear facilities - no exceptions
- Must be able to work onsite at TA-55 PF-4 in Los Alamos, NM with unescorted access
