Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Automotive/Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working on a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars to 1-ton diesel trucks. Experience with kingpins is preferred. Candidates must possess their own tools and have strong diagnostic and repair abilities.
The Technician performs skilled work required to inspect, diagnose, disassemble, repair, assemble, and test automotive systems on passenger vehicles, light trucks, diesel trucks, and related equipment.
Essential Functions
- Maintain regular attendance and report to work on time each scheduled workday.
- Diagnose and repair brake, hydraulic, suspension, steering, and alignment systems to company and manufacturer specifications.
- Remove, install, adjust, rebuild, and replace components including:
- Brake shoes and disc pads
- Bearings
- Shock absorbers
- Mufflers and exhaust systems
- CV axles
- Belts and hoses
- Starters and alternators
- Perform tire inspections, repairs, rotations, computer balancing, and replacement on automotive vehicles, light trucks, and heavy-duty trucks.
- Perform general maintenance services including lubrication and oil changes.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and courtesy checks.
- Perform road tests to verify repairs and diagnose vehicle concerns.
- Listen to customers' concerns and evaluate vehicle issues through inspection and test driving.
- Ensure all warranty and core parts are returned to the Service Manager for supplier credit.
- Maintain accurate repair documentation and communicate repair recommendations clearly.
Other Duties
- Maintain company standards of cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of work areas and equipment.
- Maintain operating efficiency of tools and shop equipment; report needed repairs or additional equipment requirements.
- Maintain A.S.E. certifications, if applicable.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Ability and flexibility to work Saturdays as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of pneumatic tools, shop equipment, and methods used in the automotive and tire service industry.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing automotive and light diesel systems.
- Skilled in:
- Brake repair
- Suspension and steering repair
- Alignment services
- CV axle replacement
- Tire balancing and repair
- Oil changes and preventive maintenance
- Belts and hoses
- Starter and alternator replacement
- Experience working on vehicles ranging from compact cars to 1-ton diesel trucks.
- Kingpin experience preferred.
- Ability to diagnose problems efficiently and complete repairs accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Previous automotive and/or diesel mechanic experience required
- Must own required mechanic tools
- Valid driver's license preferred
- A.S.E. certifications preferred but not required
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment and parts
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment
