Job Description

Part-time, flexible schedule, 25-29 hours per week

We are looking for a patient, intuitive, and adaptable DSP to provide 1-on-1 community-based support. You'll be out in Keene and surrounding areas, helping an individual build community comfort and meaningful connections.

The individual you will support is a kind, empathetic individual who loves animals and is well-known and liked at KSC. They are independent and eager to be helpful but can be shy and have sensory sensitivities. Your goal is to be a steady, encouraging presence as they navigate different environments - from swimming sessions to MDS-sponsored events.

What You'll Do

  • Build Connections: Support the individual in attending local events and fostering relationships within the community.
  • Provide Support: Recognize and respect comfort level changes. You must be able to pivot your approach based on the individual's sensory needs and emotional state in the moment.
  • Facilitate Communication: Assist the individual in using their communication device to express their needs and interact with others.
  • Encourage Independence: Offer support that empowers them to lead, while being ready to step in with behavioral awareness when situations become overwhelming.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience with behavioral awareness and support is helpful.
  • Temperament: You are naturally patient, understanding, and able to remain calm in changing situations.
  • Sensory Awareness: An understanding of sensory sensitivities and how to navigate overstimulating environments.
  • Reliability: You have consistent Mon–Fri availability and reliable transportation for community outings.

Education/Experience:

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideal candidate has one to two years' experience working with people with developmental disabilities or as an aide/caregiver. Required to complete all MDS assigned trainings.

Must have auto insurance coverage with a minimum 100,000/300,000 for injury and liability.

Pre-employment Background Check Requirements: Criminal records, motor vehicle record, Bureau of Adult and Aging Services (BAAS), Division of Child, Youth and Families (DCYF), Office of Inspector General (OIG)
