Job Description

Pay rate based on 2912 annual hourly work schedule (1456 for part-time).

EMT - Basic: Grade 11 - $15.70 - $22.00 DOQ: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess a current and valid driver's license on the date of application. Must possess an "Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic" certification in the State of Utah. Must meet current physical condition requirements on the date of appointment and maintain them thereafter.

Preferred Education and Experience: Completed ICS 100, 200, 300, 400 certifications.

EMT - Advanced: Grade 13 - $17.27 - $24.26 DOQ: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess a current and valid driver's license on the date of application. Must Possess an "Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Advanced" certification in the State of Utah. Must meet current physical condition requirements on the date of appointment and maintain them thereafter.

Preferred Education and Experience: Completed ICS 100, 200, 300, 400 certifications.

EMT - Paramedic: Grade 15 - $19.02 - $28.65 DOQ: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess a current and valid driver's license on the date of application. Description:

Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, respond to medical emergencies and other medical related calls to protect life and assets, and to treat and transport patients. Participate in training, help maintain the fire station and equipment, and assist in meeting department mission, goals, and objectives.

Duties:

Essential functions:

  • Assist in the implementation of department goals and objectives.
  • Respond to alarms with assigned company or crew.
  • Respond to all types of emergency incidents addressing medical problems.
  • Analyze patient needs and administer emergency medical care.
  • Operate all types of ambulance equipment.
  • Participate in patient transportation.
  • Respond to emergencies and operate within the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Assist in the training of fire department personnel in all emergency medical techniques and medical field activities.
  • Maintain inventory of drugs and controlled substances.
  • Attend instructions for emergency medical techniques, perform drills with other engine company staff, including volunteers, and become familiar with city layout and established response routes.
  • Maintain inventory of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) equipment on fire and EMS apparatus.
  • Participate in fire station housekeeping and maintenance
  • Follow all safety procedures outlined in local, state, and federal fire codes, and regulations including City and department policy, and rules and regulations.
  • Fill out necessary reports and keep records, as required.
  • Make presentations to schools, clubs, scouting organizations, etc., as requested.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work in emergency situations including but not limited to; all suppression activities, hazardous materials, rescue and medical emergency situations, including vehicle accidents, swift water rescues, mountain rescues, ice rescues, and other types of medical and rescue emergencies.
  • Must be able to work in intense life-threatening conditions; including bodily fluids, swift water, noise, dangerous persons and animals, natural and man-made disaster, hazards of emergency driving, hazards associated with traffic control, and working in and near moving traffic.
  • Must have the ability to understand both written and oral instructions and be able to communicate well both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees and the public.

Physical Demands:

Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for running, walking, crawling, climbing, stooping and heavy lifting (up to 150lbs) while wearing protective equipment in hazardous environments, and working in inclement weather conditions. Must meet current physical condition requirements on the date of appointment and maintain them thereafter.
