Polar Field Services supports world-class science in some of the most remote places on Earth. We are seeking a Seasonal Maintenance Technician to support operations at Summit Station, Greenland, a year-round Arctic research facility located on the Greenland Ice Sheet.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced mechanic or facilities technician who thrives in challenging environments and enjoys solving complex mechanical problems while working with a small, collaborative team.

Employment Dates:
Approximately October 15, 2026 – February 15, 2027

What Makes This Job Unique

• Work at a remote Arctic research station on the Greenland Ice Sheet
• Join a small winter crew of approximately five people
• Experience true Arctic winter isolation with no flights during the winter season
• Travel internationally to Iceland and then via Twin Otter aircraft to Summit Station
• Participate in one week of training in Denver prior to deployment
• Private bedroom and all on-site living expenses covered

Key Responsibilities

The Maintenance Technician helps ensure the safe and reliable operation of station equipment, vehicles, and facilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain snowmobiles, tracked vehicles, and heavy equipment
• Maintain and troubleshoot power generation and mechanical systems
• Use computerized diagnostic tools and maintenance software
• Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections
• Complete maintenance logs, reports, and documentation
• Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and heating repairs
• Support station operations and collaborate with the winter team
• Participate in shared station duties such as cooking and cleaning

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years experience maintaining heavy equipment or tracked vehicles
• 5+ years facilities or mechanical maintenance experience
• Experience with diagnostic software, mechanical tools, and repair systems
• Ability to operate trucks, snowmobiles, and remote-environment vehicles
• Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in extreme cold, confined spaces, and physically demanding conditions
• Valid U.S. driver's license and passport

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in remote, polar, or cold-weather environments
• Experience with diesel generators or power systems
• Welding or fabrication experience
• Knowledge of low-voltage systems or controls
• OSHA or other safety certifications


Work Schedule

• 9-hour days, 6 days per week
• Sundays typically off
• Work schedules may shift based on weather and operational needs

Compensation & Benefits

• $2,600 – $2,900 per week
• Employer-paid travel to and from Greenland
• Housing and meals provided on station
• All on-site expenses covered while deployed
