Concordia University Chicago (CUC) is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Teacher Education to serve in the College of Education, Division of Teaching and Learning. Faculty within this vibrant division comprises a supportive and collaborative team dedicated to preparing the next generation of teachers. The division seeks a flexible, driven, and committed team member who will contribute to this tradition of excellence in strengthening teacher preparation programs for the future. CUC offers a wide range of education majors, including early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary, and PK–12 programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in either middle grades or secondary education, with content expertise in science or social science. The successful candidate will teach a range of pedagogy and content-specific courses within their area of expertise in initial licensure programs. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities/Duties:

• Teach courses in the Teacher Education discipline, with a focus on middle and secondary education.
• Collaborate with the Division Chair on course scheduling, staffing, program review, and course development.
• Design, implement, and monitor curriculum and assessments within the middle and secondary education programs.
• Serve as a liaison with subject-matter experts for assigned middle and secondary education courses.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in initial licensure programs.
• Supervise teacher candidates during field experiences and internships.
• Monitor state licensure requirements and policy updates, as applicable.
• Partner with the Division Chair, Dean, and other colleagues to prepare and complete program reports for state and accreditation bodies.
• In consultation with the Division Chair, complete additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the effective operation of the division.
• Engage in scholarship and service that contributes to the university, the profession, and the broader community.
• Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).

• Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills
• Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across institutional units with faculty, staff, and senior leaders
• Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
• A record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service at the program or university level
• The ability to challenge, motivate and encourage students to high levels of academic and personal success

Minimum Experience Required:

• Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in public or private school settings required
• Middle and/or Secondary Education teaching experience preferred

Education Requirements:

• Current teaching license required
• Master's degree in an education-related field required
• Doctoral degree in education preferred
• Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred
