Job Description

We're seeking an Apprentice Lineman to join our Operations team at Wolverine Power Cooperative at our Elmira Service Center. This role is the first step in a structured, hands-on apprenticeship program designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience required to become a Journeyman Lineman.

Our Apprentice Linemen work under the direct supervision of qualified linemen and supervisors while learning the construction, maintenance, and operation of Wolverine's electric transmission and sub-transmission system.

A Day in the Life:

As an Apprentice Lineman, you'll build your career through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction as part of Wolverine's formal apprenticeship program.

You'll work alongside experienced linemen performing construction, maintenance, and emergency restoration work on overhead, underground, and sub-transmission facilities. This includes learning to safely climb structures, work from aerial devices, handle line materials, and distinguish energized electrical equipment - all while following established work practices and safety rules.

Your work will take place outdoors in a variety of conditions and environments, often requiring physical strength, stamina, and teamwork. From planned projects to emergency response and restoration efforts, your role directly supports the safe, reliable delivery of electric service to Wolverine's members.

As you progress through the apprenticeship, you'll gain increasing responsibility, technical skill, and confidence, steadily working toward Journeyman Lineman qualification.

What We're Looking For:

We're seeking a safety-minded, motivated individual who is ready to learn, take pride in their work, and build a long-term career in the electric utility industry.

Required qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a pre-apprentice lineworker program
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including climbing poles and structures, working at heights, and lifting 50 pounds routinely (with occasional heavier exertion)
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and following established work rules and procedures
  • Ability to work overtime, respond to emergency situations, and travel as needed to support system operations
  • Valid Michigan driver's license
  • Ability to maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with airbrake endorsement is required or must be obtained and maintained

What We Offer:

At Wolverine, you'll find more than just a job - you'll find a career path with clear progression, stability, and purpose.

Here's what you can expect:

  • A structured apprenticeship program with defined training steps and skill development
  • A strong safety culture and experienced mentors committed to your success
  • A collaborative, team-oriented environment serving communities across Michigan
  • Outstanding benefits, including generous paid time off, zero-cost insurance coverage, a 401(k) with company match, a pension plan, wellness programs, and more

At Wolverine, the work you do matters - to the cooperative, to your teammates, and to the members we serve every day. If you're ready to build a meaningful, hands-on career in the electric utility industry, we invite you to apply.

Wolverine actively seeks a diverse workforce and ensures that all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, age, marital status, pregnancy status, genetic disposition, or any other legally protected status.
