Park Superintendent
City of O'Fallon, Missouri
Salary Range: $79,830.40 – $85,000 DOQ
The City of O'Fallon is seeking a dedicated and experienced Park Superintendent to join our Parks & Recreation team. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Parks, this leadership role oversees the day‑to‑day operations of the Parks Division, ensuring that O'Fallon's parks, facilities, and equipment are safe, well‑maintained, and welcoming for the community. Key Responsibilities
• Manage the daily operations of the City's entire park system and equipment maintenance.
• Oversee equipment purchasing, bid specifications, budgeting, documentation, and expenditure approvals.
• Coordinate equipment repair and maintenance; diagnose issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with preventive maintenance programs, including small‑engine operations.
• Lead, plan, and implement special projects and assist with project management for facilities improvements.
• Plan and prioritize park maintenance and repairs; coordinate with the Facility Maintenance Division as needed.
• Develop and coordinate volunteer projects and supervise volunteer efforts.
• Lead snow‑removal operations for municipal and park lots; monitor weather and respond to after‑hours emergencies.
• Prepare the annual operating budget and assist with capital improvement planning.
• Guide staff in developing and administering annual budgets.
• Participate in planning and scheduling special events and long‑ and short‑term division goals.
• Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, performance evaluations, and discipline of staff.
• Prepare and review reports; attend City Council, Park Board, and professional meetings as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with department policies, ADA requirements, codes, and safety regulations.
• Investigate and resolve citizen concerns and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
• Oversee playground safety inspections and documentation.
• Serve as Acting Assistant Director of Parks when needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Five or more years of relevant experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Ability to obtain a valid Missouri Class A driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification.
• Ability to obtain a Certified Public Applicator Certificate.
• Certified Pool Operator certification preferred.
• Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
• Strong skills in leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal relations.
• Knowledge of:
– Parks maintenance operations (athletic, passive, and special projects)
– Human resources and risk management principles
– Equipment operation/maintenance and small‑engine systems
– Splash pad operations and playground equipment
– Building codes, ADA requirements, construction principles
– City purchasing and budgeting procedures
– Microsoft platforms and maintenance management software
Strong skills in leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal relations.
