We are seeking a qualified QA Technician join our team! The anticipated schedule for this role will be five, 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday starting at 8:00am. The QA Technician is responsible for conducting lab operations to support brewing, packaging, and warehouse production of our damn tasty beer.

 

What You'll Be Doing:

As a member of the Deschutes Brewery Quality team you will learn multiple skills from well qualified co-owners and be able to apply that knowledge to our problem-solving teams, troubleshooting efforts and daily work. You will be working in a fast-paced, team environment where you will be working with minimal supervision and operating under GMP and Food Safety rules. Training provided!

 

Your daily work may include, but is not limited to:

  • Conducting microbiological and analytical testing and analysis on samples such as beverage products, water, and yeast.
  • Responsible for supporting food safety and quality assurance programs through microbiological testing and environmental monitoring.
  • Contribute to lab operations: media/reagent prep, equipment checks, inventory, and cleanliness.
  • Lead daily efforts of micro lab operations including media prep, PCR, plating, and data entry.
  • Operate lab equipment: Beer analyzer, gas chromatograph, spectrometer, PCR machine, and Package Analyzer.
  • Product analysis to determine alcohol content, International Bittering Units measurements, wort color, etc.
  • Able to react to change productively, efficiently, and able to handle essential tasks as assigned.
  • Communicate and report product nonconformities.
  • Support Deschutes Brewery strategic initiatives and goals.
  • Additional job duties will change as needed to cover Quality Team operations and all internal and external customer needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to be Successful:

  • 4-year College or University degree in specialized field applicable to duties
  • Experience, training and/or education specifically related to microbiology, brewing, and/or food science is preferred
  • Effective time management with limited supervision
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge specific to brewing and packaging processes
  • Ability to interpret data, write reports and SOPs
  • Prior experience with solving practical problems as an individual and as a team member
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit and lift up to 35 pounds
