Pediatric Developmental Services (PDS) is looking to hire a Teacher, Visually Impaired/Orientation and Mobility (TVI/O&M) to join our staff and work in an amazing school! Special Education Teacher Qualifications:

  • ***Colorado State Teacher of the Visually Impaired License required**
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. The area of study must be a
    graduation from an accredited college or university training program for Teachers of the
    Visually Impaired.
  • Previous work experience in this area includes specialized training as a Teacher of the Visually
    Impaired and an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, supporting students with visual
    impairments and deaf-blindness.
  • Hold a Colorado Teacher of the Visually Impaired license and a Special Education Specialist: Visually Impaired or Severe Needs Vision endorsement.
  • Hold or obtain a School Orientation and Mobility Specialist endorsement. Earn ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification within two years of hire.
  • Earn the CDE Certificate of Braille Competency by the end of the first instructional year.
  • Complete the APS Linguistically Diverse Educator Certificate Program within three years. Understand the APS Strategic Plan.
  • Understand the APS Strategic Plan.

Teacher, Visually Impaired/Orientation and Mobility (TVI/O&M) Responsibilities:

 Provides specialized instruction and mobility training to students with visual impairments, including those with additional disabilities or deaf‑blindness. Conducts vision‑related assessments, develops IEPs, and adapts learning environments to ensure accessible, independent participation in school and community settings.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct functional vision assessments and Expanded Core Curriculum evaluations.

  • Determine eligibility for vision‑related educational services and develop individualized plans.

  • Provide specialized instruction and orientation and mobility training.

  • Adapt materials and environments to support student access.

  • Collaborate with families, school staff, and district personnel.

  • Maintain required documentation and communicate student progress.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
