Job Title: Data Communications - Foreman

Department: Communications

FLSA Status: Non - Exempt

Reports to: Field Operations Manager - Data Communications

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Data Communications Foreman oversees the daily installation and field operations of structured-cabling and low-voltage systems within Kearney Electric's Data Comm Division. This position provides hands-on leadership to field crews, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, and industry standards. The Foreman coordinates manpower, materials, and workflow across multiple phases of data, voice, and fiber installations, ranging from conduit and pathway layout to cable terminations, testing, and system certification. Acting as the primary field liaison between project management and site personnel.

The Data Comm Foreman supports the General Foreman and Project Managers in coordinating daily work, and mentoring, and maintaining adherence to Kearney Electric's Pathways to Excellence mission and core values of Trust, Team, Grit, and Growth.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop labor strategies, productivity goals, and installation plans that align with project schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in project handoff, kickoff, cost-to-complete, and post-job review meetings, maintaining open communication and alignment with the project team.
  • Proactively identify risks, conflicts, and field challenges and work with leadership to develop timely, effective solutions.
  • Lead and direct assigned data communications crews, ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and to Kearney Electric's quality standards.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, establish priorities, and monitor crew progress to maintain schedule integrity.
  • Perform and oversee installations of structured cabling systems, including copper, fiber optic, wireless, and low-voltage infrastructure
  • Coach, train, and motivate team members, fostering a positive, productive environment built on accountability and respect.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including manpower tracking, as-builts, daily logs, and safety meeting records. Weekly test result submission.
  • Develop and maintain short-term manpower forecasts (3-week look-ahead) and long-term projections (4-month) to support project planning.
  • Accurately review and process employee timecards, ensuring hours are coded correctly and submitted on time.
  • Champion a safety-first culture by conducting daily and weekly safety meetings, enforcing PPE standards, documenting incidents, and promoting continuous awareness.
  • Maintain site organization and professionalism, ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are used efficiently and responsibly.
  • Represent Kearney Electric on site with professionalism and integrity, serving as the field liaison for project management, general contractors, and clients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions typical to Arizona (heat, cold, dust, wind).
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and structures, and work at heights and confined space.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier with assistance.
  • Requires manual dexterity to handle tools, materials, and electrical components.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, or walk for extended periods.
  • Must follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations without exception.
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as dictated by site safety requirements (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, high-visibility clothing, etc.).
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for all crew members.
  • Must communicate effectively (verbal and written) with team members, supervisors, and clients.
  • Expected to model professionalism, teamwork, and integrity at all times.
  • Must adhere to company policies, including attendance, conduct, and ethics standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in progressive experience in low-voltage, data communications, or special systems installation.
  • At least two years of experience in a lead or supervisory role
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or associate degree in electronics preferred
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical layouts, and building plans to plan installation and wiring routes.
  • Experience in system programming, configuration, and software/firmware updates for multiple platforms.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure, switches, and structure cabling.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate field personnel.
  • Commitment to safety excellence, with thorough knowledge of OSHA and company-specific safety standards.
  • Proficiency with common technology tools such as Bluebeam Revu, Procore, or equivalent systems.

LICENSES/SPECIAL TRAINING: 

  • OSHA 10-Hour certification required; OSHA 30-Hour preferred.
  • BICSI TECHNICIAN certification a plus
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification preferred
