Job Description

TITLE: Library Clerk/Associate

DEPARTMENT: K-12 Library

REPORTS TO: Teacher Librarian, Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Teacher Librarian

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for completing tasks as assigned by the teacher librarian to ensure students are supported in accessing library materials, developing research skills appropriate for their grade level, and maintaining the orderly operation of the school library.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Academic and technology skills commensurate with assigned position.
  2. Good communication and problem solving skills
  3. Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  4. High school diploma or equivalent required, training commensurate with position desired.
  5. Desired experience working with children/students.
  6. Desired experience working within a library, media center, or school.

Desired:

  1. Previous experience in similar position
  2. Experience working with children/students
  3. Experience working with students who have behavioral, emotional, learning, and/or physical disabilities.

  3. Demonstrates proficiency in technology skills and provides appropriate support to students and staff.
  4. Supervises the checking in and out of books and materials as well as student use of technology.
  5. Maintains check-out system, shelves books, and adds/deletes books to system as directed by teacher librarian.
  6. Directs volunteer help in assisting with library duties.
  7. Provides effective supervision and maintains a controlled and safe environment.
  8. Performs duties, as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adheres to library, school, and district policy and procedures.
  2. Ensures compliance with state laws associated with school libraries.
  3. Redirects student behavior and provides support as needed.
  4. Focuses on assigned tasks while on duty.
  5. Maintains confidentiality and communicates student needs/concerns with supervising teachers only.
  6. Maintains appropriate appearance and attire for the school environment.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by teacher librarian or building principal.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking

Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
