Job Title: School Nurse (RN/LPN)
Reports To: Director of Schools, Dept. of Special Education Supervisor, and Director of Coordinated School Health

Position Summary
The School Nurse promotes student success by providing healthcare through assessment, intervention, and follow-up. This role serves as a clinician, leader, educator, and advocate for the health and safety of the PreK-12 student population, ensuring a healthy school environment that maximizes academic achievement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Provide direct nursing services, first aid, and emergency care for acute illnesses or injuries to students and staff.
- Chronic Health Management: Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and 504 Plans for students with chronic conditions like but not limited to asthma, diabetes, and seizures.
- Screenings: Conduct and document mandatory health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) and coordinate referrals for follow-up care as needed.
- Medication Administration: Safely dispense prescribed medications and perform treatments according to Tennessee state regulations and board policies.
- Compliance & Records: Maintain accurate cumulative health records, monitor immunization compliance, and manage communicable disease prevention and reporting.
- Collaboration: Participate in IEP and 504 meetings to provide summaries of a student's functional level and health needs.
- Health Education: Instruct students and staff on hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and emergency procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Active Tennessee Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Certification: Current CPR, First Aid, and BLS certification.
- Education:
- LPN: One-year diploma from an accredited program.
- RN: Associate's or Bachelor's degree (BSN) from an accredited program.
- Legal: Satisfactory background check and valid Tennessee Driver's License.
- Experience: Preferred minimum of 2 years in pediatric or public health nursing.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move quickly in emergencies and lift at least 25 pounds.
- Frequent standing, kneeling, and stooping to care for students of all ages.
Sick and Personal Leave: LPNs and RNs earn the following time off: five sick days and one personal day per school year.
