Your role as a Mechanical Assembler

As a Mechanical Technician at ATC Automation, you will begin your day by reviewing job orders and assembly instructions to ensure a clear understanding of project requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build automated machines and associated sub-systems using engineering drawings, schematics, CAD models and blueprints including I/O, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical schematics
  • Expected to assemble mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Able to accurately lay out holes and drill, tap, ream, countersink and chamfer edges accordingly
  • Working knowledge of various hand tools, power tools and able to use various precision measuring tools such as scales, micrometers, calipers, indicators and gauges
  • Some travel required, typically less than 10%

Collaboration with team members will be essential, as you may participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving to address any challenges that arise. Documentation of assembly processes and adherence to safety protocols will be key parts of your daily routine, ensuring a professional work environment. You will also have opportunities to provide feedback on processes to help foster innovation within the team.

Requirements for this Mechanical Assembler job

To be successful as a Mechanical Technician at ATC Automation, a solid foundation in mechanical skills is essential. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blue prints will enable you to understand complex systems effectively. Additionally, attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities will help you navigate assembly tasks efficiently and accurately. Familiarity with hand tools and assembly equipment is important for executing daily tasks.

Strong communication skills will facilitate collaboration within the team, ensuring that project goals are met consistently. A commitment to maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to safety protocols will further enhance your effectiveness in this role.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • 2+ years of custom machine building and auto repair experience
  • Experience with manufacturing (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to shift gears quickly and adapt to on-the-fly customer changes and be able to clearly explain issues
  • Ability to use traditional inspection tools for the inspection of parts and assemblies
  • Exert up to 50 pounds on occasion
  • Work in standing and sitting position continuously
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to floor

Beneficial but not required:

  • Experience building or troubleshooting low voltage electrical systems
  • Ability to read and understand PLC, Robot, and similar software programming
  • Experience in troubleshooting and refining machine vision, robotics, machine safety, sensors, and measurement devices. Experience with machine safety and OSHA
  • Experience providing feedback on processes, procedures, manuals, and training documentation
