The Technician Manager will be responsible for (including but not limited to): + Providing the structure to help advance efficiencies, innovation, training, communication, team building, and engagement, specifically on the technical side. + The person in this role will direct the Technicians and Technician Leadership team including the Pharmacy team. + The Technician Manager will work closely with the Hospital Administrator, Medical Director, associate DVMs, Front Office Manager, and other management members to continue to grow a culture of teamwork and excellence in medicine. + The Technician Manager will be responsible for setting and tracking medical supplies, purchasing budgets, analyzing flow and formulating solutions. + The Technician Manager will also be responsible for the Technician and Assistant schedule as well as payroll. + Applicants must possess a valid California RVT license at the time of application. + **This position will require the person to be flexible with their schedule including overnights and weekends.** **Job Type:** Full-time **Pay:** $75,000 -$95,000, Salaried Exempt **Schedule:** 8 hour days, 5 days a week; _Weekend, Swing, Overnight availability Required_ **Experience:** Veterinary experience: 5-7 years (Preferred) **Work Location:** In person **Descriptions of Responsibilities:** The overall job entails several important aspects of the hospital, they are as follows: + Animal Care and Treatment + Customer Service + Hospital Cleanliness + Department Efficiency and Management + Emergency Situations + Physical Requirements ****This is by no means a complete list.** Some tasks may be added or removed from this list as deemed necessary for the safety and wellbeing of the patients. **Animal Care and Treatment Responsibilities:** Perform all basic tasks expected of Veterinary Technicians and Technician Assistants quickly and efficiently Maintain proficiency in placing IV catheters, drawing blood and urine Capable of taking high quality radiographs Capable of processing all in house labs Provide standard nursing care to ER and ward patients Capable of correctly doing various veterinary calculations (mEq, %, kg/mg/ml, etc.) Be able to administer oral and injectable medications Teach basic and advanced nursing skills to employees, students and volunteers Assist, guide and train employees, students and volunteers in anesthesia and various ER procedures and emergencies Answer technical and medical questions of staff regarding patient care Have and maintain a strong knowledge base of systemic diseases, their progressions and treatments Have and maintain a strong knowledge base of ER procedures and protocols Share and train on specifics ER diseases, drugs, and protocols Discuss and/or educate staff and doctors on new products and/or equipment Ensure patient transfers and rounding protocols are upheld Ensure that doctor, staff, and client communication regarding patient care meets hospital standards Oversee process of patient admitting, hospitalization and discharging Responsible for administration, delegation and completion of veterinarian's medical orders. Mentor and motivate technical staff in nursing care, radiology, anesthesia, ER procedures, laboratory and pharmacy procedures Ensure that all patient medical and anesthesia records are complete and accurate. Ensure that deceased patients are properly being tended to quickly and efficiently. **Customer Service Responsibilities:** Perform all basic tasks expected of Veterinary Technicians quickly and efficiently Be able to thoroughly communicate treatments, estimates and discharges to clients Be available to answer client's medical and technical questions Be able to handle minor client complaints and issues Always maintain compassion, sympathy and professionalism with clients especially during high stress situations Ensure that VCA name badges are being warn for the client's knowledge and convenience **Hospital Cleanliness Responsibilities:** Oversee the maintenance and housekeeping of the hospital for cleanliness and organization of both the inside and outside of the building Oversee and maintain that the staff are doing daily maintenance of the wards, radiology and the treatment floor **Hospital Efficiency and Management:** Meet with the hospital management team on a regular basis regarding departmental and/or other hospital issues. Oversee and maintain the daily flow of the various departments, ER and the wards. Create monthly schedule for the team and responsible for all updates. Oversee attendance issue (tardies, absences, early departures, late lunches). Ensure that the floor staff are on time to work, and are taking lunches and breaks within the appropriate time frames according to their schedules. Work with and oversee the Technician Supervisors in completing quarterly check-ins of the various departments and wards. Train or delegate training of all new employees. Maintain all equipment and inventory pertaining to the wards and the treatment floor department. Help facilitate and maintain communication between doctors, clients and staff. Assist staff with unfamiliar tasks, i.e. pulling samples, monitoring anesthesia for procedures. Assist the Hospital Manager with maintaining compliance of all OSHA/AAHA standards. Have disciplinary discussions with staff and write documents, including SOD, WW, FW and separations. Work with the Hospital Manager to make employee changes in Workday and Dayforce. Ensure employee and client satisfaction. Recruit, interview and hire new employees. Provide new hire orientations ad training. Encourage staff professional growth. Schedule and hold regular meeting with the various dept staff, Supervisors and Hospital Managers. **Emergency Situations:** Assist and train during anesthetic emergencies and procedures. Ability to give staff and clients direction and/or guidance quickly during stressful and disorganized situations Assist the doctors in assessing patients and requesting treatments Maintain a strong knowledge of how to perform CPR Be able to identify impending signs of cardiac and respiratory arrest, as well as be able to direct staff during these types emergent situations **Physical Requirements** : Dependable attendance Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 10-hour day Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand written directions Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, radiology equipment, laboratory equipment, computers, etc. **Benefits:** We offer competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision and paid vacation/sick days, 401(k), generous employee pet discounts and more!
