Everglades National Park protects the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States with more than 1.5 million acres of sawgrass prairies, pine rocklands, hardwood forest, and an extensive mangrove estuary leading to Florida Bay and the Gulf of America. Established in 1947 as the first national park created for its biodiversity, Everglades National Park is home to many critically threatened and endangered species including the Florida panther, the American crocodile and the West Indian manatee. The park is also the main source of drinking water for residents of South Florida. The northern section of the park is accessible via Miami or Everglades City, the southern section is accessible through Homestead.

Position Overview: The Management Analyst member will be able to design, develop, implement, and manage processes and procedures necessary for tracking and documenting activities across the South Florida Natural Resources Center (SFNRC). The member, in collaboration with other SFNRC staff, will analyze, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of internal administrative operations, and/or management activities within SFNRC. The member will also act as an assistant to the Director to support staff and to handle administrative tasks.

Once trained, the member duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Director on accomplishing various tasks related to administration.
  • Interact with managers, supervisors, and staff members on matters related to administrative services by attending meetings, drafting agendas and minutes, and serving on appropriate work teams/groups.
  • Develops and implements new systems or administrative processes to meet SFNRC needs (tracking system, file maintenance, cataloging, etc.). Identifies, restructures, and recommends ways of eliminating, combining, simplifying, or improving administrative and clerical office procedures and processes.
  • Uses computers and appropriate software for data collection, analysis, and collating.
  • Prepares reports, forms and tabular material for ease of understanding and information processing. Establishes and maintains office files (electronic or manual), including confidential and sensitive files. project files, administrative material and regulations, reports, forms. Etc.
  • Types and composes correspondence, memoranda, reports, work schedules, etc., from drafts or notes using word processing software and computer equipment.
  • Helps coordinate and prepare for potential building move, including helping deal with surplus furniture and materials, cleaning up office space, and more.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule: The anticipated schedule is Mon-Fri from 9:00 am – 5:30 pm (ET) at location.

 

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $650/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Members must be authorized to work in the United States. ACE does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request). Members must be 21+ to drive due to ACE's insurance and liability requirements.
  • Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

  • Competitive applicants for this position hold or are pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as business administration and project management.
  • Computer savvy and with good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Detail oriented with problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Has a certificate in project management is preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability and willingness to actively listen and learn from the many scientists within SFNRC.
  • Deep interest in improving an organization's efficiency.

 

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Environmental: Mainly indoor conditions with some outdoor activities if needed. Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled.]
  • Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
  • Travel: This position does require extremely limited domestic travel within the South Florida National Parks and Preserve locations.

Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.

Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the NPS or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the NPS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the NPS, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
