**Summary**
Responsible for development of certification and test data required for installation of technology onboard commercial aircraft with oversight from a lead Aircraft Certification Engineer.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
+ Responsible for development of certification documents, including System Safety Assessments, Project Specific Certification Plans, Master Data Lists and Compliance Reports for STC projects.
+ Creation of on-aircraft and lab (e.g. DO-160 qualification) test plans for compliance to airworthiness requirements including functional, EMI and flight performance requirements.
+ Development of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) for STC projects including evaluations per FAA guidance to determine required inspections (such as EWIS ICA) and resultant creation of those inspections.
+ Actively assists the certification engineering team in activities with the regulatory approval office or external certification vendors including data submittal/management and STC application creation.
+ Support the certification engineering team in various other activities with the local FAA offices including foreign validations of FAA type certifications, PMA applications and FAA audits.
+ Supports certification engineering team with coordination of FAA activities on STC projects including DER/DAR and/or ODA UM resources to support piece-part and installation conformities as well as article and aircraft test witnessing activities, as required, for the duration of an FAA STC project.

**Education and/or Experience**
**Required:**
+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a Certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic
+ Strong technical writing techniques and knowledge with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat
+ Familiarity and/or experience working in an engineering or certification organization in a regulated industry
**Preferred:**
+ Minimum of two years working in the aerospace industry or a Masters of Science Degree in a related field, such as Systems Engineering
+ If a Certified A&P Mechanic, actively enrolled in a Bachelor of Science Degree program for Engineering
+ Familiarity working at an FAA Part 145, or equivalent, Repair Station Operator (MRO)
+ Familiarity and/or experience with avionics, communication and/or navigation systems
+ Familiarity and/or experience with electro-mechanical systems
+ Familiarity and/or experience with Title 14 CFR regulations
+ Familiarity and/or experience working in a engineering/technical organization with strict document control

The salary range specified is applicable to positions within the State of Illinois and reflects various factors considered in compensation decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to, individual skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and the specific needs of our business and organization. At Astronics CSC, it is uncommon for new hires to receive an offer at or near the top end of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are made based on the unique facts and circumstances of each candidate. The current estimated yearly salary range for this position is $61,474 to $76,842 per year. In addition, you will be eligible for our Quarterly Incentive compensation bonus. Astronics offers a competitive salary, along with opportunities for career growth.
