Job Description
**Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic** **Job Description** This role involves installing, fabricating, and modifying commercial sheet metal duct systems using stainless steel and galvanized materials on an active construction site. The sheet metal mechanic interprets blueprints, completes accurate layouts, and supports HVAC installations, including retrofit work, piping, controls, and VAV box installation in a commercial healthcare environment. **Responsibilities** + Install, hang, and secure stainless steel, galvanized, and stainless steel ductwork on a commercial construction site. + Fabricate sheet metal duct components to specification using appropriate tools and methods. + Install VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes and ensure proper integration with existing or new HVAC systems. + Perform retrofit work, including removal, modification, and reinstallation of ductwork and related components. + Support AC installations, including associated piping and controls, to meet project and code requirements. + Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete accurate layouts and installations. + Coordinate work with other trades and communicate effectively with crews and site personnel to ensure smooth project execution. + Follow all site safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times while on the job site. + Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment responsibly. + Attend and complete required on-site orientations prior to starting work and adhere to all general contractor requirements. **Essential Skills** + Minimum of 6 years of experience with commercial sheet metal work. + Minimum of 5 years of experience working on a commercial construction site. + Proficiency in hanging, installing, and modifying sheet metal ductwork. + Experience installing and setting up VAV boxes. + Ability to interpret blueprints and complete accurate layouts. + Comfort working on retrofit projects, including AC installs, piping, and controls. + Strong communication skills to interact effectively with crews and customers. + Reliable transportation to and from the job site. **Work Environment** This position is based on a commercial new construction hospital project, working primarily Monday through Friday on 8-hour shifts, typically from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with some Saturdays as needed. The role takes place on an active construction site where safety is a priority, and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. You will complete on-site orientations before starting work and operate in a structured environment alongside general contractors and other trades. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract position based out of Cocoa Beach, FL. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
