**Machine Operator / Crane Operator** **Location:** **Portland, OR** **Pay Rate:** **$27.70/hour** **Job Summary** This role is responsible for safely operating overhead and wall‑walker cranes, handling steel materials, and supporting production through cutting, staging, and preparing metal products for shipment. The position requires strong attention to safety, precision, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced industrial environment. **Key Responsibilities** + Operate overhead and wall‑walker cranes using remote and pendant controls + Select, inspect, and secure proper rigging equipment, including chains, straps, hooks, and magnets + Transport steel and metal materials using cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material‑handling equipment + Complete safety inspections and required documentation prior to operation + Set up and operate metal‑cutting saws in accordance with work orders and specifications + Monitor and operate multiple saws as production demands + Measure and verify material dimensions and quality using hand tools and precision measuring devices + Use computer systems for documentation, labeling, scanning, and printing + Grind and sand materials to remove burrs and sharp edges + Label, band, and package finished products for shipment + Perform routine maintenance, including changing saw blades, propane tanks, and sideloader batteries + Maintain a clean and organized work area by removing metal shavings and debris + Participate in safety, quality, and job‑specific training initiatives **Skills & Qualifications** + High school diploma or GED required + Experience with metal‑cutting saws or similar industrial equipment preferred + Overhead crane and material‑handling experience required + Knowledge of rigging practices and safe material‑handling procedures + Forklift and pallet jack experience + Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and measurements + Basic computer skills and mechanical aptitude + Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety + Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment + Physically capable of performing medium‑duty industrial work **Employee Value Proposition** + Medical, dental, and vision insurance available for $30 per week + 401(k) retirement plan + Paid time off starting after one year of employment + Hourly pension contributions with long‑term vesting + Stable, long‑term opportunity in a production‑driven industrial setting **Work Schedule & Environment** + Second‑shift position with a 2:30 PM start time after the first week + Non‑climate‑controlled steel and metal warehouse + Loud industrial environment with active overhead cranes, band saws, waterjets, forklifts, and related equipment + Materials are cut, processed, and prepared for shipment **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $27.70 - $27.70/hr.
